Idle Actions
Like I said last week, I need to focus on the character's liveliness. So I added 3 idle actions for it to do when it's not doing anything.
The first one is being able to wander around. This is tied to its new curiosity where it will go towards things it has never seen before and inspect them. Inspection is done by getting close to it, kicking it, or playing an animation.
Second is the ability to turn around towards what it is looking at. I previously made it spin towards whatever it was looking at but that felt weird. So now it actually turns its body via an animation to rotate towards something. A bonus is that if it turns to face something, it may by happy accident look at something it has never seen before, triggering its curiosity.
Last ability is just animating it when it idles for long enough.
New Animations
I added close to 9 new animations ranging from turning around, to inspecting, to looking over your shoulder. I used the amazing free resource of Mixamo to find appropriate and useful animations to fulfill the new character features. I am trying to limit as much as I can creating custom animations because it's a time sink.
Next week I will be creating my animation pipeline in Blender to attach facial animations and import them automatically into the MyRobot animation stack.
Stay tuned!
