MyRobot Development Part 24

This week:

The First Enemy

 There is no official name for this creature yet but they were modeled after maggots and larvae, so lets just call them larva. As described, they attack all sources of power so that they can jump on their target and feed on the electricity. This indeed does mean that they pose a danger to your robot and your exploration because you will have to come back home if your robot dies on you!

They come packed with physics behaviours so that they can slither on all surfaces. They work by raycasting a few rays and averaging the normal and position of the world it sees and then fitting its body shape to that ground.

They also spawn out of hives which are holes in the ground. More on this later.

Hurt Behaviours

This week of work added 5 new animations to the robot character which allow it to respond to larvae if they jump on its legs, in front/behind head, or on its back. It also responds accordingly with the built in AI system so that it can always respond and let you know that something is attacking it. It is aware of how many bugs latch on to it and can pin point what limbs there are larvae on.

Analytics

The free version of the game received roughly 300 downloads within the first couple days which is massive! The Patreon also grew by roughly 33%! Also massive. I am excited to see what I can offer you guys. Like I promised at the beginning, no more boring chatbots, the future is npcbots.

This coming week I am going to be working on the new map. The current rocky map was a "pilot" test map that was purposely made detailed just to visualize where I wanted to make the game go. Now that I am receiving a bit more funding, I will be remaking a new map with greyboxes (no detail), so that I can develop the map faster and leave the art pass to actual artists that I may potentially hire (or buy assets from).
