Leaderboard (draft + pre-final vector)

Decided I should maybe use same leaderboard across cooperative level editing lobby and multiplayer matches.

This is how it probably will end up looking like, more or less.

Most probably columns will be customizable with level logic.

Score graph is perhaps how good player or team performs, with possibility to hover over random player and see his graph.

Visiting profile and spectating could probably be moved to right click context menu and left click. For that matter, maybe report button is not needed there too, but these could be customizable and include level-specific buttons too hopefully.

Any opinions? Will be converting this thing into vector and write logic for it for now.

UPD: Made vector + colored version of it, also added line for spectators list, implementing all this into the game now.

Yup definitely. Allows for some very interesting Custom Maps and Ideas for most Players. I think its gonna fit right in and be a welcome feature to Level Editors.

Yes, in fact - I implement all player-related columns in a way where map logic (or module that implements game mode) is able to create arbitrary fields. For example it will be possible to even mask or alter nicknames of players connected to match if gamemode wants it that way. Same about hiding ping too - everything is customizable. Probably spectating/report buttons will be customizable as well. At least I think it would be good for some kind of match owner to be able to control players in some specific unusual game mode.

Will the Cooperative Version of the Leaderboard Look different then this? Would be nice to have a another one that gives more info that helps on Cooperative Gameplay. Like Teammate HP, Life's Left if something like that is implemented, Who is down and needs revive and maybe even see the Ammo count/Weapons they have.

Patty

Yes, it is kind of a info for specific potential game mode. I haven't tested how game works in multiplayer thus gamemodes are a subject to change. Though I feel like endless mode but with limited number of respawns per player can be interesting.

I know that Armor Games have been working closely with getting Flash games onto Steam. Games like Zombotron and i believe Strike Force Heroes is being posted with the help of Armor Games to be seen on Steam. Most of them were taken quite well by the Steam Community. And honestly Seeing how much great work you have done so far with 2.5 I honestly see a community being built within this community instead of people leaving.

Patty

Looking dope, I'm assuming the reinforces left is the amount players of the team can respawn for that certain gamemode?

darkstar

Maybe. Can be hard to rework what I currently have made to work with Steam easily. Perhaps it is worth rethinking after release, it can take time to develop.

UnrealCrash

I dont agree with that "higher leaving rate" statement really. Steam is where its at, there isn't really a better place to put a game anymore. Unless your game can sell itself having a standalone launcher or just running from your own website is a really bad idea at this point, one of the only indie games I can think of that successfully did this was StarSector. Where as plenty of small indie games can pick up traction on steam seemingly at random, take a look at Vampire Survivors, Rogue Tower, Super Auto Pets, these games are doing great despite their varying lack of polish, and that might be due to the coverage they received on Youtube and Twitch, alongside being easily purchasable on Steam.

Im liking that match hoster term you used there.

DukeofLeet

Thank you, I'll be considering this. At the same time - we should keep in mind that we might have higher leaving rate as well, not just higher number of incoming players. Sure audience is larger, but game variety is even larger there (30 new games a day released, or something like that). Still, might be worth a try - I'm not thinking too much into all this right now yet.

UnrealCrash

Yes, thinking about these. Would be best if teams won't show up in DM-like gamemodes etc.

Just became a patreon since i noticed you post more updates here then on twitter. Keep up the good work Eric Gurt. Game is looking amazing so far and i have some great ideas i want to make with the editor once you post this game online. I do suggest that when you post this game you release it on Steam. You might not think much about it but the potential of many people discovering and getting interested in the PB Series would increase drastically if published there. It would also mean that you could have a good amount of feedback and get the support needed to keep going when it comes to working on the game after release and other future projects. Get your name out there and make what you work on known to the gaming community. Who knows it could lead to something even better for you!

Patty

Maybe make some of the elements toggleable? So editors can turn some off them off?
