I won't release a beta version of MindWare this week because I haven't implemented anything that would justify the time it typically takes me to prepare a release. However, that doesn't mean I've been slacking!
I've finally decided to create a detailed storyboard mapping out every major scene necessary to tell the story I’ve had in my head (I won't share it because that would spoil the story).
I’m almost done with the main storyline and will begin working on the character storylines immediately after. With the storyboard completed, I’ll always know what to focus on next, and it will also prevent me from accidentally creating inconsistencies or conflicting plot points later down the road.
I know I should have created it much, much earlier, but I have several reasons why I didn't:
I didn't know if I would be able to turn the story into a game without making major compromises
I didn’t want to feel constrained by a rigid outline while I was still figuring out details in my head
I honestly underestimated the importance of having a structured plan when developing a complex narrative. I thought I could keep everything organized in my head, but as the story grew, so did the difficulty of managing all the interconnected pieces, and this has already resulted in a few problems that I now have to fix (nothing major but still).
The good news is that I now know for sure that I will be able to tell the story as I want to tell it, so the only question that remains is how well I'll be able to tell it, but I can assure you that I'll continue giving it my best shot at a steady pace ;)
I appreciate all of your continued support and patience!
