Item - Ravenous Ring

Ravenous Ring

Wondrous item, varies (require attunement)

The Ravenous Ring is the name attributed to a collection consisting of a bracelet and two rings, discovered within a shipwreck along the southern coast of the Tierra Kingdom. Mages from the Tower of Arcanum have recognized these artifacts as one of the lost fangs of Frahagil, the Immortal Juggernaut. Similar to other fangs, these items are not crafted but naturally grow into magical objects. Uniquely, the essence of Frahagil within these items appears to possess a level of sentience. Unlike the typically corrupting and parasitic nature of Frahagil's essence, this particular essence seeks merely to survive and grow. It forms a bond with its wearer, creating a mutualistic symbiosis that enhances and protects the wearer's physical strength, provided it is sufficiently nourished. However, caution is advised, as this entity remains a part of the Chaos Touched, which not only devastated and massacred numerous kingdoms during the 1st Chaos Insurgency but also remains 'alive', despite its body being dispersed into countless fragments.
-----------------------------------------

Eldritch Maw. While you’re attuned to this bracelet, as a bonus action, you can transform one of your arms into a large gaping maw. The weapon deals 1d8 piercing damage, It counts as a simple melee weapon for you and can be used to make an unarmed attack. Attacks with this weapon gain an additional bonus to attack and damage rolls equal to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down). You can designate this weapon as having light and finesse properties or heavy properties when you transform your arm.

When you hit a creature with your Eldritch Maw, you can attempt to grapple that creature as part of the same action. When you have a creature grappled in your Eldritch Maw, you can’t use it to attack other creatures.

Ravenous Feast. When you reduce a creature that is at least one size smaller than you to 0 hit points with the Eldritch Maw, you consume its essence, gaining 1 charge. For creatures larger than you, you gain 1 additional charge for each size category above yours. The ring can store charges up to your proficiency bonus and loses 1 charge daily. If the ring is at capacity, each excess charge grants you 2d6 temporary hit points. Additionally, you gain 1 charge when you roll 20 on an attack roll using the Eldritch Maw.

Charged Hunger. The Eldritch Maw's abilities grow with the number of stored charges:

When you start your turn with less than half of your maximum hit point, you have to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 10 + the number of charges the item has). On a failed save, you see all creatures as your enemy until the start of your next turn. While in this state, you have to use your turn to chase and attack the closest creature that you can see.

---------------------------------

Symbiote. The bracelet can't be removed from you while you're attuned to it, and you can't voluntarily end your attunement to it. If you're targeted by a spell that ends a curse, your attunement ends, and it detaches from you.

Sentience. The Ravenous Ring is a sentient chaotic neutral item with an Intelligence of 3 + your proficiency bonus, Wisdom 8, and Charisma 14. It possesses hearing and darkvision up to 60 feet and can communicate telepathically with its wielder in any language known by its wearer. Its voice is deep and guttural, obsessively discussing its need for sustenance. The entity’s intelligence and ability to learn grows along with the wearer, and as it grows, the way it speaks, as well as its personality, also changes. At first, it speaks in broken sentences and repeated words while acting like a child, but as it gains more intelligence, it becomes more cunning and manipulative.

Personality. Dominated by an unending hunger, the Ravenous Ring requires large amounts of food daily, bargaining with its wearer for sustenance. It promises power in exchange for being fed, showing a form of loyalty as long as its demands are met. However, neglecting its hunger makes it sullen and may drive it to manipulate its wearer into seeking food by any means. It views others merely as sources of food or obstacles, desiring an existence where it can feast endlessly without restraint. To the entity, it strives to be the apex predator that sees every life as prey for it alone.

trying to make another 'varies' rarity item.  For this one, instead of a new feature at a certain level, I made it so that you get a new buff for each charge that it has and your character proficiency bonus will affect the charges limit.

Well, I think this could be categorized as 'legendary' due to it being sentient and all.

The file will be added to wondrous item folder in the Vault Post.

Love this! I'm going to use this with one of my villain NPCs against my party and its gonna be wild. Also, I don't know if you are planning on it, but I would be so excited to see a full stat block and art piece for Frahagil

It's definitely something that I'm obsessed with right now. I wanna use the Martial Arts item series to experiment with this type of growing item. To see what else I can do with it and what other formula I can come up with.

As always great job!! I love the Varies rarity, it is something that I will defenitly expand on.

You could run it like the minions in some of the books published by mcdm. Have your bbeg's minions all or some be one shot health and have them grab a couple to fuel them and go wild.

SpeedyRogue0403

Yes, I love seeing more items that come from this creature especially one that is symbiotic instead of parasitic!

Anthany

This is such an awesome item. I kinda want to make a villain who uses simple spawn like imps to fuel the ring mid combat and is slowly driven mad by it.
