Sunday Update: Next Update Edition
Added 2023-05-08 04:19:58 +0000 UTCNext Patreon release is this Friday.
I'm currently playing around with some background systems to flesh out new ways to make money, chud reputation, and how the game will progress through the initial ramp up phase we are in right now. I've talked a lot about my plans for the next update so I won't repeat any of that here.
Upcoming brief rant about stuff only kind of game related you can skip. Writing is hard. I try to only write a scene if I think it is worth reading. That means it has to be dense. Either entertaining or erotic. For this last week I've spent a lot of time just staring at the screen. The more erotic scenes I add the harder the writing gets to avoid getting to repetitive. At some point it isn't avoidable. Some scenes will be very similar in their approach, but they still serve their "purpose". So I'm mostly off the hook there. For the non-erotic scenes I feel a desire to constantly be interesting and entertaining. So that's even harder to write. I like what I do, but putting stuff on page is always a push and pull that I put a lot of thought into (for an indy porno game).
Edit: Oh I do have something small to add. I'm writing the arcade scenes right now and I've always hated 4th wall breaking jokes in adult games. I'm not sure why they are so common, but they rarely add anything and they are rarely funny. Mostly they are making fun of the game's own mechanics which seems like a punch in the gut to the player. Having Catherine play a game it's been too tempting not to make some funny commentary about adult games. However, in the future, I can promise never to do any 4th wall breaking humor.
Comments
It's just more of her playing a video game commenting on video games. No actual, "haha I'm in a game amiright".

2023-05-08 18:05:29 +0000 UTCFor story purposes, I find that sometimes in games (mostly non adult games) that it's ok to have some just plain generic information for world building. Not everything has to be super entertaining or "interesting." An example would be just little details about how the sewers are just repurposed apartment floors (since we're on a rooftop) or something to that affect. Maybe something about how the chuds live in the ceiling tiles of the "sewers." Don't really have to jazz it up, just maybe refine that or something, to show how slowly the world became like it is. Just like little world building details for immersion. Not always "entertaining" but interesting. At least for me. Either way, Chud tennis multiplayer leaderboards or riot! ;)

In the end, if you decide to test things out and see how they land with the players, you can always take them out based on feedback.
