Brewing drinks

Asking for some thoughts on brewing. I added a brewing mechanic because I wanted some management aspect to the game and I've never really been happy with the results. So I wanted to reach out to all of you to get your opinions and share my options.

I can keep trying to get the current brewing system right and come up with a little engaging game for it. Something to make it slightly more fun or meaningful.

I can make it so drinks no longer cost anything. Let IO do the drinks. Instead make a brewing upgrade available toward the end of the tutorial or even later and have it be a bonus. Like brew super strong drink to remove arousal. Breast milk to increase arousal. Stuff that would have a limited number of uses so brewing can be used as a buff instead of as a part of the rotation.

I can abandon brewing completely. Just because brewery is in the name doesn't mean there actually needs to be brewing.

Unless brewing leads to h content then it's unnecessary. Developing a mini game in a porn game without porn is a previous misuse of your time.

When serving the low live (forgot the name), there is no reason to give out the first option of drinks except the supply reason (dark beer gives more money than light beer, but light can be made for free, at least that was the case last time I checked). If you remove the brewing or change it so it only gives bonuses, this should be rebalanced. Currently, this also not perfect because you produce more than you need, at least a bit (have not checked out the last few updates). I maybe should mention that I have never tried to fight agents IO, so perhaps this is more of a problem for this rout. But if I don't feel like the game will pressure me into corruption with money shortages, and therefore I will just go down this rout on my own.

i mean, a minigame do souns nice to make it more interesting, but the breast milk drin tho, so why not both? i like the idea of putting other things, but i also like the mechanic of making my own, so yeah

Mapache

Why not both? Leave it available for the player to create, or to leave everything automated by the IO, when the player chooses to manufacture, they earn a Bonus (money, more items, lower cost, a buff) and when they let the IO manufacture, they earn nothing!!!

Adding more modifiers to the bartending and serving mini-games seems like the way to go to me. At a certain point, the mini-games become stale and if there were some way to induce a state on some days where patrons are more aggressive (hoping over the bar, for example) or more needy (asking to be flirted with for a confidence boost), that could add some variety. Also, I feel like each game needs a rating system or fail state so that there's a reason to do better, flirt more, etc.

When new builds are released I play through the game from the beginning. To get a better feel for the pacing/corruption. But every time i end up using the cheat chicken for brewing only. It's just tedious currently and feels more like a chore than engaging.

If brewing leads to slow body and behavioral modifications to Cat, the girls, and the audience, then yes. Otherwise, meh.

Maybe a recipe system that lets the player discover improved versions of the base drinks? Once you discover a recipe that works with ingredient sources that can be found as the story progresses IO handles the production aspect? A mandatory task rotation definitely gums up the game play for those that want to focus more on story or sex. It becomes especially taxing on players who have started the game from scratch a couple dozen times over the course of development. As a general rule anything laborious should always be optional. That being said I love the game and am excited to see what comes next ^_^

I like the basic mechanics of the brewing game where you guess some values and get some feedback, but I don't like that you have to wait to try again until the next batch is being made. I think I would enjoy it more if you just did the game and got the correct values and was done in one go. As far as the rest of it, I think I agree with most everyone that needing to periodically start more things brewing to avoid running out of a beverage is more tedious than fun.

I would think that maybe if IO handled the day to day it would make any perception of a grind less taxing, and as a supplement maybe an actual small brewing minigame (about as complex as the bartending minigame) that you could do only in the morning hours where you can create a supply of specialty drinks available for the shift which you would then have to decide to use during the Bar hours or the Serving hours. And each one, like you said, could have either effects or even just be better version (ie Dark Brew+) that brought in better value. Maybe you would have to order ingredients to allow yourself to play the minigame, but it would not have to be something that was required to progress.

I think if you removed the brewing completely, it would not change anyone’s perception of the game and allow you to be more efficient with your time. Of course most of the votes are going to be wanting something new because it’s human nature to always want more but in reality I think the existing mini games are more than engaging enough and when adding too many layers you risk a subtraction by addition situation like you have current brewing. It’s a never ending battle against scope creep in game development.

I always finds it a hassle to manage drink numbers, so what I would suggest is - once you unlock certain upgrade you should be able to set a brewing station that continue to supply you with the drink (IO manage it). but you can also bring back system where you can discover perfect conditions for a certain drink, for example, once every 2-3 days, maybe this will add a money bonus and can be a like an achievement.

teozard

I feel like the "bonuses & buffs" options allows for more sci fi stuff and potential extra NSFW content. We've already seen IO making physical "alteration's" in one of the endings so having drinks that can affect both the customers and potentially the girls seems like an interesting idea.

Joevenile

you could keep the current in and have the option for IO to take over, but IO taking over adds corruption elements because of course it would, like aphrodisiacs in the beer, have it so patrons can offer catherine drinks etc.

twistedqt

Would be a shame to waste the map, but the current guessing-game approach to optimizing the brew doesn't feel fun.

One other suggestion, if it has to be kept in it would make more sense if only half was brewed by IO but the other half has to be brewed/made by some corpo men, but the men only brew for Catherine if she “helps” them during the process. It would add another mini game but it would be glorious. I think making it a groping/brewing mini game would fit the title of this game much more. Obviously this would add a lot more work for you though. Also this wouldn’t have to be retrod back to the beginning…Example: IO loses his sourcing for x items and now they need to be sourced elsewhere.

Bcam

I think that IO should be smart enough to brew what is needed without help from Catherine, there are other things that he has done “for the prosperity of the pub” so he should be able to brew as needed automatically. What I think would be cool and hot is when Catherine is more corrupted she gets the option to spike the batches with ecstasy or viagra or something along those lines. That being said, as soon as I saw the cheat chicken I used it for free brews cuz the current system wasn’t enjoyable

Bcam

I am not sure how much value the brewing system is providing to the game experience. If you're inspired and you have come up with something fun, go for it, but if you're trying to do it just to do it, maybe prioritize the story and what the core fun of the game is.

Buster4MC

As it is now, brewing is more a slight stress that never really matters but I still worry about. I won’t run out of drinks… but I could. Sometimes mechanics like that are engaging, other times they are annoying, and I don’t know how I ultimately feel about this one.

Mr. 52

For me the brewing aspect was just kinda there it was a chore and not fun but not boring but I can definitely see it be more flesh out and trying new things to make it fun It can also be a optional either a toggle or a future upgrade where you don't do it anymore
