Beldinde the Innocent

Oh Beldinde, you innocent farm elf. You left your green pastures on a holy mission to help the needy, but a simple misunderstanding leads you to find yourself in the service of Sloria, the Goddess of Lust in Amanda Clover's raunchy new novel, Carnal Healing!

Belinde's on a wild ride that will lead her to the ultimate 'religious experiance,' if it doesn't overwhelm her with ecstasy first!

I had a lot of fun drawing this cover! The stained glass background was no small feat, with each cell given its own unique pattern. It's a quality peculiar to real stained glass. They dyes and pigments swirl in the glass as it cools, especially in older medieval glass, which was the inspiration for this piece. I got that effect by crumpling manilla paper, scanning it, then inversing the color so it was dark with light creases. I then went cell by cell placing and cutting away the paper pattern on an overlay layer. It was actually pretty meditative, and I can see why it's used in some many religious settings, though clearly, it also can be used for more profane purposes as well. ;)

I'm just gonna call what you did with the stained glass effect magic and move on. As William Blake said in the "Proverbs of Hell" section of his work The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, "As the caterpillar chooses the fairest leaves to lay her eggs on, so the priest lays his curse on the fairest joys." [That's all from memory, AJ!] Not this nun, who needs a vow of chastity like Randy Blythe of the noted gospel group Lamb of God needs a swear jar. https://youtu.be/Qf0589ViXt8?si=3Q573COSFD_MNYfb [I've seen them live, and DAYUM!] Great work, and I bought the book for my Kindle app.

I wonder if the winged heart alludes to a womb.
