Like how all stories have a similar plot and with time they evolve or change to create other but the original idea is still there. This sounds like a another version of cinderella. Thank you for sharing👍👍👍

FRESH TAKE: What if Vasilisa is lazy, evil, and murdered her family? Just for fun, since we like to see these as literal stories, and after re-listening a few times... and from what we know of history where the "victor tells the 'truth'," I went into AP English dork mode and saw Vasilisa in a different light. From the story Aly told, Vasilisa isn't referenced as doing any actual work- the "doll" (demon) does it. Vasilisa gives it sacrifices of food, braids its hair, and "somehow the work gets done". It reminds me of the episode where ghosts live inside those dolls and you have to feed them or evil stuff happens. Maybe the step-mom and sisters weren't the best, but they were fed up at Vasilisa not doing her fair share, so they sent her to Baba YagA to get what they need. And Baba YagA knows something is up with the girl, so she puts her on trial with tests. Each test/chore Baba YagA assigns, the girl doesn't do. The "doll" (demon) does it. Vasilisa doesn't even try- she just sacrifices some food and cries about it. And Baba YagA knows something is up- the trials are completed fully, like when people cheat on a test and copy the whole answer key for 100% without showing work. So Baba YagA is like, "enough. This demon child hasn't learned her lesson, so I'm gonna eat her for the sake of society." Naturally the demon dolls helps the girl get out, only for her to MURDER her family. 3 poeple dead for the price of one (no repercussions btw). When she's living with the old woman, she does nothing to contribute until she's SO BORED. Only then, out of boredom, does she apply herself and gets to live it up with the tzar. Now that she's rich, and the only surviving member of the incident, she can say whatever she wants about what happened... including her beauty... and then we get "Vasilisa the Beautiful." It's not like they're going to fact check. And Baba YagA already had an "image," so why not blame her? Mother Nature knew what was up and was trying to correct course before this demon-spawn corrupted society, lol. After being a long-time listener to Nat and Aly, all I see is conspiracy theories in fairy tales. Thank you, Aly, for the roller coaster of an episode! I loved it! What do you guys think of my crazy theory?

Listening to the episode now, but looking forward to this extra content!

That's some cinderella/sleeping beauty stuff right there. Pure light and good. I aspire to be the old woman who gets to live in the palace.
