In this case her getting infected was very rare chance. She was bitten by a mosquito that had bitten a Weredonkey. So the blood got transferred to her when she swatted it. She was just very unlucky. Weredonkeys are not super common outside of hereditary because they are generally pretty chill.

And only later realizing that she really hadn't thought through how badly that could work out. But as it was her idea, and she asked them to do it, she couldn't ask them to not wear the shirts.
