It appears to me that they do not know how to handle the turn of events, but they are certainly very caring. The husband's shirt is crass (possibly prophetic...) but he's proud of his daughter and showing support the best way he can think of. The younger brother is being a normal younger brother. The mother too appears to be doing her best. Heather still hanging around them despite the t-shirts also shows her love for them.
