That Sonic the Hedgehog Writing Experiment

You may recall on the podcast I mentioned somehow stumbling in to what I guess I'm now calling a "writing experiment." The long and short of it is that sometimes, conversations with friends happen and you start spitballing ideas for a thing as a joke.  It usually never goes on longer than, say, a few lines of dialog.

I ended up doing something vaguely similar regarding "Ghostbusters 3" -- a post meant to be a "prediction" for what I thought a third movie would be sort of became an extremely compressed cliffnotes version of an entire movie concept. Sometimes you get the ball rolling, and it's hard to make it stop.

Something similar happened after I watched the Sonic movie. My mind wandered, wondering about a sequel. The ball rolled a little further, this time. There's more detail here than in the Ghostbusters post, but it's still not a fully detailed movie script. We'll call this a "rough outline." It clocks in at 17 pages.

Some parts are more detailed than others. The beauty, I guess, of something like this is that when I don't know all the details, I don't necessarily have to write them. I can stay focused on "the destination" of where the story is going. So occasionally, it slows down and describes things in detail, and other times, the best description you get is "They fight."

I don't know how much value there is in reading something like this, though. Because, again, it's not a "full story." And I do worry -- I wrote like, 75% of this in the space of a week, but I ran out of steam and the last quarter came in fits and starts over a period of two months. Plans I had when I started this became fuzzy the longer I was away from it.

Either way, this may be in an unreadable wasteland where it's too long for an impulse read but too short to really be invested in. I dunno! I don't really write stuff like this very often. Or, like, at all. Definitely not to this length.

I don't know what Patron tier to hide this under because I don't really have one right now for writing, so I'm letting all paying customers read this. I've also scheduled it to become public at the end of the month, since it feels weird making what amounts to fanfiction be paid-only. If you have thoughts on that, let me know.

Comments

This was a fun read. The humor was on point and felt in line with what the movie established. I do love seeing people play off Sonic inadvertently causing trouble with his lack of planning, too.
