Shield High 0.69 Release

At least, hopefully it is. It's been a while since I've done this so there's a possibility I've done something wrong. If it doesn't work please let me know and I'll do my best to fix it.

But anyway! What's in the patch?

First of all, probably some stuff I've forgotten about. I was chipping away at this months ago before putting it aside, so there's bound to be some stuff I just assume was in last patch that isn't. But here's what I do remember:

-A new system for characters! You can now, if you so desire, go in and edit character files to make them say silly shit, fall in love with you, or be unstoppable combat monsters. It's not a complete conversion yet, but it's getting there.

-Combat text for...Sasha! When doing the tutorial fight you now have descriptions of what Sasha's doing to you. I picked Sasha because I was mostly just testing it, and I wanted to put it somewhere unimportant and easy to access.

-Combat re-balances. As seen in the testing. It makes fighting actually hard. You may want/need to use the advanced start and give yourself a power boost if you don't want any uncertainty about winning. And even then you might still lose.

-A (maybe) new plot line involving Pauletta. You can demand she submit to you, challenge her to a fight if she doesn't, or offer to make her your slave if she does. If she does submit however, there's a whole other plot line as someone wants you to back off her claim.

I say maybe new because this is content that might've been in an old patch, I'm not sure. The second phase of the plot line is new however.

A quick couple of notes however. Going to school post-loss will probably crash your game. That's cause the game looks for the events when you're enslaved that just...don't exist. They'll exist...eventually. For now, losing is kind of a game over. Sorry about that. Also there's a few rough edges regarding the Pauletta plot in terms of scene length and one win state not working, which I will have fixed for you by the next patch. The win state that doesn't work is the one where you don't fuck the new girl, so...I don't think anyone will actually see it.

Anyway, with all of that said, here you go, more content. Enjoy!

Next month will be another plot, 1-3 more converted characters, a full romance line(as voted on by the $5 crowd), and another character getting combat text(also voted on by the $5 crowd).

There is yeah. It runs on the XNA Framework which you unfortunately need to install separately to get the game to run without me exporting it as an installation every time. I figured the one time install of XNA was less of a hassle than installing and uninstalling the game every patch. XNA Framework can be downloaded from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20914 I intend to eventually look into this and see if there's a more elegant solution, but I always forget about it until the day of the release, and then I'm in too much of a rush to work it out.

I forget now, but is there stuff you need to actually run the game? After some, er, pretty bad computer issues, I've had to clean wipe my computer and ended up on Windows 10, and can't seem to get Shield High to run now...

The Mary side of things triggering only on a successful charm is intended, however the problem with Jillian is unexpected. I didn't test that since I implemented it ages before, so either A. It was broken back then and I never fixed it or B. The changes to character imports messed up Jillian's interaction there. I'll do some investigating and work out which it was, and hopefully get it patched up for next time. As for Alicia...probably just a case of me writing one thing based on how it was (incorrectly) working, and then not updating the text when I fixed it. I'll give the code a quick look to see if it was triggering wrong, or if it was just a mistake in the writing. My money is on the writing though. Either way, appreciate the feedback! It helps a ton!

Well, wanted to explore more of the game before commenting, but given that you'll probably need feedback for the patch... I don't know if it is intended, but Paulleta's story only triggers if the charm is successful. If you're not, you can't challenge her if she refuses (at least not with Jillian). Same for the successful charm, there's no option to claim her or anything of the sort. The events just unfold by themselves on the next day. Also when you are "naughty" and disobey the rules, I am pretty sure that Alicia(that her name?) states that you'll be having a fight "today at the schoolyard center", but that fight only happens on the next day. Might be that the Alicia conversation should trigger on the day after you demand Paulleta again or that something went wrong with the days count (the day I triggered the fight was Friday).
