At 1:16:35 everyone says at their first watch (me included :P) that Jean could've saved them but remember they are low on gas. It could just be suicide for him. He is only regretting not to speak up to lead them over the rooftops. Nearly every time there is a relevant reason for people to act like they do. Obviously fear takes a big role for not rational thinking in this show ;)

2025-04-07 21:22:38 +0000 UTCalso side note in case you didnt notice, but when Armin said he wanted to keep the small blade cuz he didnt wanna get eaten alive, he didnt mean he wanted the blade for protection. He meant it in the sense that he wanted it so he could kill himself in case he was about to be eaten cuz he would rather die that way than by being eaten. Mikasa threw the blade away so he wouldn't be able to kill himself. That was her way of telling him not to give up.
