Mapping out the top 99 sands

It's definitely time... for the weekly...

🐸🐱 TODEPOND TIMES 🐱🐸

What's new this week?

Mapping out the TodePond World

The next video is going to be a sequel to my old Tourism video. Just like the first video, it's going to feature a 'world map' of all the different destinations!

Because of that, I've been drawing lots of little symbols for the new map. It has been fun to flesh out the different things you might find in the 'TodePond' universe! I've been wanting to draw more animals for a while, and this will be a chance to introduce some more! Such as... the birds... the todes' rivals. And more!

The nice thing about the TodePond art style is that it's quite simple. This means even someone who is rubbish at drawing (me) can make stuff for it! Flora Caulton did give me some advice though.

By the way, the map visual is all up at github.com/l2wilson94/MapPond but watch out! There are spoilers there!

Top 99 ways to make Sand

I've been making sand in lots of different engines for the next video. And it has helped me to discover EVEN MORE WAYS to make sand in cellular automata.

For example, NetBioDyn is a biological simulation engine. To make sand in it, I had to streamline sand behaviour in a different way to usual (with some help from Ben Crulis). Instead of sand atoms "sliding down" from above, the "sliding" behaviour is carried out by the atom underneath. This means that it works in a fundamentally different way, and it would be fun to explore the implications of this!

This has got me thinking...

A while back I said in a tweet that I should make a "Top 100 ways to make Sand" video. I wasn't being serious... but the more I think about it... the more I want to do it.

I probably won't be able to do it any time soon, but I'll start to make a list of 99 different ways of making sand. When I've got to around 80-ish, I'll think hard about if it would be possible.

THANK YOU for your continued support as we move into 2022! I'm really looking forward to what's to come this year. And I hope you feel pleased to be supporting my projects. See you next week! 🐸🎉
