What's new this week?

CellPond

I've been working REALLY HARD on the CellPond engine, which I'll show in the next video! The engine will let you make your own cellular automata in some puzzling ways.

As of this week, you can now place down 'cells' into little diagrams to show how they should behave. And the colour picker for cells has grown some new features too!

So... every colour is made up of three 'channels' - red, green and blue. You can now move around these channels however you want. You can remove them, swap them over, or duplicate them. This will let you make more complicated rules.

For example, you could make a Seed element that transforms into a Flower. The flower's redness could be affected by how green the seed is.

I'll keep working hard on finishing up the engine!!! I'm keeping track of everything that needs finishing here.

Nothing

I've now started editing and putting together the next video! I was going to call it 🐉 Drag & Drop, but I'm now thinking that I might call it... 🤖 Nothing. Because it's all themed around starting with NOTHING! Starting from scratch and... slowly building each element again, one-by-one.

I felt like... I've been spending so much time on this video. So I may as well do it justice and give it a weird name! But watch out! The froggy 'host' might end up going missing, and we may not see them for a couple of videos! (I do enjoy building up this silly 'tode-lore' alongside the videos).

Sand Blocks

I've been helping Max Bittker to make something cool for his Sandspiel game. We've been building BLOCKS (using Blockly) that let you make your own elements, like Fire, Sand, Water, Explosives, or whatever you want. I've been trying to make it as simple and as easy as possible... but there's a long way to go!

It's very helpful to be working on this at the same time as my own engine. It makes me realise the different design goals of the two projects.

Sandspiel wants to be clear, easy.

CellPond wants to be cryptic, puzzling.

I'm looking forward to both becoming more usable!
