Get Moving

Welcome back! To the weekly...

๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ TODEPOND TIMES ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ

What's new this week?

Moving

This week, I've been working hard on the next video, ๐Ÿ“บ Screens in Screens in Screens.  It's going to be about a new engine/tool/toy that I'm making, called ScreenPond. It lets you create the droste effect by placing down screens.

This week, I've been making it so you can click and drag to move screens that you've already placed down. This allows you to move an infinite number of shapes at the same time! Which has created some strange effects...

Imagine you have a screen. And on that screen... is itself. And on that screen... is itself... and so on. If you move any of these screens, then ALL other screens should move too (because they're technically the same one).

In that example... if you move the biggest screen, then everything inside it also moves. But what should happen if you move one of the smaller screens? It wouldn't just move the screens that are inside it... It would also move the screens that it is inside of. This causes some really strange parallax effects (that I didn't expect). It's still a bit buggy, but it's coming along!

Ninety-Nine

You may have noticed... that in the recent video vote, one choice was missing. I chose not to include an option for ๐Ÿ† Top 99 ways to make Sand - a video concept that I've previously mentioned. The reason for that... is this:

I've set a goal on my patreon page! If we get up to 99 patrons, I'll make the ๐Ÿ† Top 99 ways to make Sand video as a celebration. The video will feature 99 different ways to make sand!? And a different patron will be thanked alongside each one.

If we ever do get up to 99 patrons... I hope it'll be a nice way to celebrate and thank everyone :)

Equality

The T2 Tile Project is a huge inspiration for me! So I always follow along with its updates. The project aims to make a whole new type of computer - that's a lot safer, and a lot BIGGER.

In this week's update... Dave Ackley put forward an idea for a new type of language for cellular automata. The language would use maths-y equations to tell the cells what to do.

Inspired by this, I've been making a little experimental engine - to try out some of these ideas. It doesn't work in the same way (yet), but I've been pleasantly surprised by the patterns and behaviours that it can create! I'm going to investigate it further!

Thank you ever so much for supporting me and my projects. And welcome to all my new patrons this week! I'm working really hard on the next video now, so I hope you're looking forward to it! Until next time... have a great week! ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ
