Mutant Ant

Do you know what time it is? It's time for the weekly...

🐀🐜 TODEPOND TIMES 🐀🐜

What's new this week?

Luke's Ant

The next video, called ✨ NEW Cellular Automata, is going to be about some well-known cellular automata. One of the thing's we'll visit is... Langton's Ant. It produces some amazing-looking patterns! And it works like this:

A little ant 🐜 walks in the direction it's facing!
The floor it walks on is made up of cells, which can be white ⬜ or black ⬛.
It swaps the colour of any cell it walks on.

⭐ On a white cell, it turns 90° clockwise.
⭐ On a black cell, it turns 90° anti-clockwise.

Some people might say that Langton's Ant doesn't fall under the definition of 'cellular automata'. And to those people I say............ "I prefer my definition" :)

So I made my own variation - called 'Luke's Ant'. It works in the same way, except...

⭐ On a white cell, it turns 90° clockwise.
⭐ On a black cell, it turns 135° anti-clockwise.

It makes the ant run off in a straight line! But if we position it so that it bumps into its own trail, it creates some cool column-like patterns! Nice job, little ant! β™₯

RedGreenBluegene

One of the other cellular automata I'm going to explore is 'Huegene', which I first discovered in this video (by Dave Ackley of the T2 Tile Project). It produces some amazing colourful visuals. And it works ROUGHLY like this:

Cells can be Empty ⬛ or Plant πŸ€.

⭐ Plants copy themselves into nearby Empty cells.
⭐ When Plants make a copy, the copy's hue changes a little bit.

The complete Huegene simulation also involves Herbivores 🐜 that eat the plants and mutate too. But let's keep it simple and just focus on the Plant! In my version...

⭐ When Plants make a copy, the copy's red, green and blue values change a little bit.

Therefore, I call it 'RedGreenBluegene'. It's not a new or original idea. But hey! That's the whole point of the video :)

Next Next Next Video

I've now finished all the coding for the next video! So I'm now recording+editing it. It's well underway!

The video after that is also planned out (πŸ“Ί Screens in Screens in Screens).

The video after THAT will be decided by a patron vote. So I'm currently figuring out what options to offer. I'll probably re-offer some close runners-up from previous votes. But there'll be some new ones too. Here are some projects I've been working on:

Arrows
I have an idea for a cellular automata that makes simple music. It uses a lot of arrows and a lot of portals (including the TIME TRAVEL portals from this video).

More Nothing
The πŸ€– Nothing video aimed to explained the basics of CellPond. But basics are basic. We want to see the crazy advanced stuff right!? Like fractals, space-warping, and other weird things. This video would show how to do some of that.

Define Define
A video where I explain the meaning of all the technical concepts from my videos. Such as 'cellular automata', 'programming language' and 'life'. It might sound a little bit dry, but I'm hoping to put in some heavy twists like usual.

I may or may not offer some of these options (among others), depending on how far along they get. I'll open the vote when the next video releases, which should hopefully be next week!? I'll try my best... :)

Thank you so much for supporting and joining me with all these projects! I hope that they can inspire+encourage people to be creative! I hope you're having a great week... See you soon! πŸ₯🐜
