Double Rainbow

It's time... for the weekly...

๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿธ TODEPOND TIMES ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿธ

What's new this week?

Gradient

I've mentioned before... that the next video is going to be about CellPond! And I've also mentioned before... that I want to change how CellPond looks!

There's too much flashing! When you choose a 'range' of colours, squares start flickering between all colours in that range. It's really annoying! And it's not very good for screenshots. AND it's hard to understand what it represents.

So I've been experimenting with using a gradient instead - to show the range of colours. The only problem is: Colours have three-dimensions right? Red, Green, Blue. And our square only has two-dimensions right? Horizontal, Vertical. How do we translate those three-colour-dimensions into two-space-directions?

I know that a lot of people have dedicated their entire lives to this topic, and there are some clever solutions out there. But I don't need something that's perfect - I just need something that gives a rough idea of a range of colours. So I've tried a few different ideas out... and I'm currently working with this one:

There are eight different 'points' in the gradient. These points encompass all extremities of the range of colours. And we place these points around the square (four on the corners, four on the edges). The colour of different pixels in the square depends on how close they are to each point - and we blend them together a bit.

We can rearrange how the points are arranged - to tweak how it looks. Currently, I'm trying to make it a bit biased towards showing blue and green colours - to make it in with the usual colour scheme better. There's still more to do, but I'm enjoying seeing the different unusual gradients that you can create with it!

HOWEVER... most of my time this week has been spent on: editing together the 'screenplay' for the next video. I've now mixed together the different music tracks, and I've planned out every shot+recording that I need to make. Unfortunately, that does mean that I have less to share (because I don't want to give away any spoilers about video twists/gimmicks).

This is the point in the process where my job becomes more like a 'colour-by-numbers' task, as I just have to fill-in-the-blanks (until there are none left). It's also the point where I start to become very excited about the video - because I can really visualise it now. I hope you're looking forward to it too!

Welcome to all my new patrons this week! And welcome back to all my old-time supporters! Thank you so much for your help, and for following my progress. I hope you have a brilliant week (wherever you are in the world!) ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿธ๐ŸŒˆ
