Do you remember SandPond? It's the thing I originally made my videos about (hence the name, the 'SandPond Saga')! But it's been a long time since it's actually appeared in a video. I'm currently working on CellPond instead, which indirectly follows-on from SandPond.

You see, a while back, I made a programming language for SandPond, called SpaceTode. The big idea was: You can code elements by drawing little spatial diagrams. It was fun! But unfortunately, whenever I wanted to make a more complicated element... I'd always have to resort to a more traditional coding style (which you can also use within SpaceTode).

So then I dreamt up CellPond! Its one goal was this: Code elements ONLY with spatial rules. No boring traditional coding allowed! And to achieve this goal, I had a rule:

All of the elements that I've ever made in Sandpond...
I need to be able to make those in CellPond too!

To do this, CellPond needed to have some rather-wacky constructs in it. The weirdest so far have probably been the diamonds (shown in the 🤖 Nothing video) and hexagons (shown in the upcoming 🔮 Spellular Automata video).

These can be fun, but they can also be annoyingly over-complicated. So I'm now rethinking my rule! As CellPond has grown, I'm enjoying it for different reasons. Rather than a SandPond-replacement, I'm enjoying its limitations more-and-more. As I continue to work on it, I've decided to abandon my rule!

It's only a couple of weeks until the next video! And I've been preparing the following one too, which will be called 📕 Define Define. But after THAT, it'll be up to patrons to decide! As soon as the next video comes out, the vote will open up. I will make whichever video wins.

Some of the runners-up from the last vote will be available again. 🎵 Arrows in Arrows in Arrows was a very close second!

And I've been planning out another choice called 🌈 NEW NEW Cellular Automata. It would be a sequel to ✨ NEW Cellular Automata, but it would be turned upside down. In the original video, berd made some different cellular automata, and posted them online. Then, lots of bots replied+commented on them! They weren't very kind to berd...

In the new new video, a bot will make some cellular automata! And berds will comment+reply. What will happen when it's switched around? Maybe we'll find out one day! (and it's another excuse to make some fun cellular automata along the way)
