🐦 TODEPOND TIMES: Naming Layers 🐦
What's new this week?

Layers
No rest for the wicked! I've started working on the next video. As previously voted by patrons (a long time ago), the next video will be 🎵 Arrows in Arrows in Arrows. And to prepare for it, I've done a few updates to my tools.
I have a little thing called Habitat, which is the little toolbox I use for all my projects. This time, I added LAYERS.
Let me explain...
A lot of the projects that I've made use the concept of layers to display stuff on the screen.
SandPond has one layer for displaying the sand simulation. And it has another layer above that for all of the menus. You can click on the menus... or you can click through them to interact with the simulation underneath.
CellPond has two layers too. One for the simulation, and one for the drag-and-drop editor.
Even PaintPond uses multiple layers (which I first made for the berd-writing sections of ✨ New Cellular Automata) . The berd is an image, so it needs to be on a separate layer to the vector brush strokes underneath. This was contributed by patron Linn Dahlgren.
My Habitat library has a helpful tool called Stage, which lets you make a one-layer display. To add any extra layers, you have to tack them on by hand.
So this week, I reworked the Stage tool to allow you to use multiple layers out-of-the-box. This should help me make future projects a lot more quickly (especially the next one)!

Arroost
The next video is going to be based around one new engine/tool/toy/thing.
In my original plans, from over a year ago, the engine was called ArrowPond.
But tode is now asleep (in the lore) so I renamed it to ArrowRoost.
But that's even more of a mouthful. So I've double-down'd and decided to combine Arrow and Roost together, and now... It now has the ridiculous-sounding name Arroost.
I've started work on the engine now! As usual, everything I do is open-source™ so it'll all be up in the Arroost repo.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my videos. It's such a heartwarming feeling to know that some people out there enjoy my work! I hope you have a great week. See you next time! 🔊🐦
