Heya all!
After 2 weeks of work, here's a progress report on the update v0.6. I'll keep it free of any major narrative spoilers.
In general, working on the game feels good these days, since I've already tuned most mechanics/background stuff, making it easier to add quality content to the game. You might not know this, but even though the game engine is based on RMMZ, it's modified quite heavily, which took time to set up initially but has made everything more flexible.
For this stretch, I've focused on designing missions along with a major story milestone. Those scenes required getting both renders/videos and writing just right for both perspectives. The story's going in a good direction now that the major pieces are in place. Another few important scenes for Eva are also done, complete with renders and animations.
I've also made several animations for a scene involving both PoVs. They came out great. This work helped me improve my video-making abilities. Basically, whenever ... repetitive movement ... is happening, I realized it's best to make lots of different short, smoothly looping animations, rather than fewer, longer videos. The diversity makes for more engaging visual storytelling.
I'm aiming to get two missions into this update, like the last one. It will be a major update in terms of story development, and will showcase a couple new story-focused mechanics as well.
Very rough estimates of v0.6 progress:
Mission 1 (alpha 2): 80% done
Mission 2 (beta 2): 20% done
Main narrative scenes: 60% done
Extra scenes: 40% done
Mapping work: 40% done
Animations: 80% done
Renders: 50% done
Sprites: 50% done
