The Hodag is a fearsome creature with the head of a frog, the grinning face of a giant elephant, thick short legs set off by huge claws, the back of a dinosaur, and a long tail with spears at the end. It is said to be so ugly that it makes people weep, and its breath can kill a person.
The hodag is a popular symbol in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and it is often used in marketing and tourism materials. The city even hosts an annual Hodag Country Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
