TheCocktailDB recognised in Top 300 API List of 2019!

Boasting to be the world’s largest API & microservices conference with over 4000 visitors, API World 2019 takes place this month in California. API World was the first large-scale expo created a number of years ago, with the mission to be neutral and facilitate connections, knowledge, trust and business within the developer community of API providers and consumers.

While we weren’t able to attend in person, we were reached out to by the organisers and are hugely proud to share that TheCocktailDB was nominated and recognised as one of their first API 300 List - a showcase of the top innovations in the API industry over the past year! 

The companies were selected through an interview and evaluation process based on several factors, including the data submitted by the companies and industry research. The API 300 focuses on API technologies including API infrastructure, API management, API analytics, and API industry verticals such as health care, communications, automotive, finance, media, and dozens more.

We are listed alongside big hitters such as Twilio and IBM, as well as other lesser known but very impressive API platforms. Check them out here :)

We’ve spent a lot of time on TheSportsDB recently with a number of new users coming on board with great ideas and suggestions!

· In terms of data this month, our users have been busy filling out things such as Moto GP and Nascar Racing which are now completed with artwork and details for all teams and drivers

· We’ve added Livescores to the front page on a trial basis for soccer

· We’ve added a 2nd alternative event name in the AwayTeam @ HomeTeam format for American sports. This has the field of strEventAlternate on our API

· Work has also been done on historical event data with tens of thousands of historical events added 

· We’ve imported 10 years of archived results for the UK Elite League Ice Hockey and UK BBL Basketball teams, British Basketball League, French LNB Basketball league, Swedish (SHL) and British Elite League Ice Hockey leagues, and Aussie Rules (AFL) league

· Future events have also seen some love, with all major events for 2019 Snooker, Darts and European Basketball seasons added.

Most recently, after a Patreon supporter feature request, we extended the Youtube Video Highlights API to allow filtering by league and also date. We have seen some really exciting apps being built on our YouTube Highlight API and can’t wait to see more of them published! Please do share any apps you’re creating with us, we’ll be happy to promote them and just love seeing the data being used in different ways.

This month we looked at improving the album cover thumbnails page to show 3D artwork. Now under the album page, a user will see templates of the 3D artwork so it’s easier to spot what to upload. Just check out any of the trending albums on the front page to see examples of how 3D artwork can look. Those transparent PNG album images can really make your application look beautiful.

There is also a new “Data Feed” page to show latest Artist, Album, Single and label artwork. This allows people to track what’s being edited and uploaded on the whole site. With 200+ average edits a day this is a great way to keep up-to-date.

We have expanded limits for Patreon supporters so that more items are returned on the API. This was originally limited, but is now unlimited, so a full list of all cocktails can be returned, rather than the free limit of 100.

And a bit of fun, as Halloween is coming up, we thought it was only right to upload some spooky cocktails! Check the Halloween tag on the front-end website to see a selection of cocktails you can make at your own party! And don’t forget to send us an invite 😊

Another bit of PR news – TheMealDB was used as a basis for a “#100days100projects” challenge that was referenced on a very popular coding website – freeCodeCamp – earlier this month. FreeCodeCamp is a non-profit whose mission is to help people learn to code for free, providing a plethora of resources to utilise and be inspired by.

As a result, we’ve had many requests for features and data to be uploaded to this site, so we’ll be working through the backlog of requests next month and look forward to releasing more features soon!
