My small Nikon Coolpix is suitable for underwater pictures if it's not too deep and so during this fun session at the beach I tried to take some underwater photos, too.
In fact it was fun, but it was not easy. First of all I am not a diver, it feels as if I can hold out about half a second under water and when I finally opened the eyes the air already has gone :-)
So I shot those images from the hip - just as I learned it many decades ago during my apprenticeship as a photographer: to get a blind feeling for what the camera sees we had to shoot just pointing with the camera without looking thru the viewfinder.
The small Nikon has one problem in this regard: it's trigger button gives no feedback. You don't know if the camera has clicked or not, you don't know when it has finished it's slooooow focusing process and finally decides to take the picture.
Although the water was very calm that day, the small waves still had a lot of power. Something that you don't really realize when you just swim or play around, but you note it very much, when you try to point on an object, or in this case, on the alluring parts of a young girl that are hidden under the surface of the sea.
While I moved of course she moved, too, but to keep her in place was not the only reason I held on her :-)
I really do like some of those shots. On my next jurney I will take a snorkel with me, try to learn how to use it, and then take more underwater photos, because I believe, it is a topic that is worth it. Sometimes even if there is no nice girl next to the lens.
