The Rheinfall
Added 2022-10-01 15:50:31 +0000 UTCIt doesn't look that huge (and actually it isn't that huge, but larger than it seems in that photo), but the Rhine Falls are the biggest waterfalls of Europe. I haven't verified it, but they say so.
We made a stop there on our way to Basel.
Switzerland has a "natural border". In contrary to the political borders that often are some straight lines on the map, the Swiss border follows rivers, makes curves around towns or hills... And so on our way to Basel we were constantly changing between Germany and Switzerland.
Now Switzerland is not Europe... If you're not from Europe you maybe don't know hat Switzerland, although situated in the very heart or Europe isn't part of the European Union. So, while you can travel between EU-countries without any customs check, there is a custom office at any border crossing.
It is kind of strange when you drive one straight street and every some kilometers change the country with all the border theater. And at the very last border crossing the Swiss officer had a bad day. I don't know, if his wife made him angry that morning or if he just thought that this strange old man with his beautiful young Latina girl is somehow suspicious. That I traveled with Swiss papers in a car with Spanish number with a girl with Colombian passport and Spanish residence probably was too much for the simple mind.
So we had to drive aside. The officer consulted the one who is capable to type a name into a computer and as there were no criminal records he took his pocket lamp to see if there was something interesting in the car. But the most interesting was siting friendly and quietly on co-drivers seat, and he probably felt that he wouldn't find anything more interesting and with a bad humored gesture he finally let us continue the trip...
