Play Integrity Fix Poll

As you've probably found out already, Google blocked the Play Integrity workaround once again. Where do we go from here, is up to you to decide.

On our Stable ROMs for Snapdragon devices, we already exclude the Play Integrity workaround from the ROMs, so users have to install Magisk and then install the Play Integrity Fix themselves.
The advantage is that they can update the module instead of hoping for a rebuild.

But what do you prefer?

Comments

I agree with you, I dare to ask, there will be a Roma update soon

Виктор зинченко

The system apps are not updatable for a very good reason. You're assuming that the system apps are not modified... What do you think would happen to those modifications if you're just going to replace them with vanilla apps?

Igor Eisberg

I prefer a non-rooted rom and please, if there is a new update, allow me to update system applications, and the question is, will there be an update to launch Google Play

Виктор зинченко

Let the polls decide...

Techmanguru

Fair enough I guess. Seems like it's gonna become difficult for rooted users 😅

zues121510

Already answered - double the time to rebuild (even to update system apps or fix some hidden issue), and double the storage (paid). Not really an option unless I kill 50% of the supported devices here. Also, it's not one of the options in the poll, so...

Igor Eisberg

Good idea... 2 types of roms one rebuilt one without... The one without rebuilt does not require frequent updates so im assuming it wont take too much time actually so the devs can work on rebuilt ones often

JianHong He

Im on this rom, because I don't want root (it is a mess to get all banking apps working...) This integrity shit sucks so hard. I have to pay with gpay each day.... So back to stock is what I consider soon :-(

Pixel Surium

Could releasing two ROMs with and without the fix be the best option?‎‎‎‎‎‎ If Google fixes the play integrity fix, you can flash the other ROM without the fix (and magisk/module fix). It will save users time waiting for a rebuild and xiaomi.eu devs won't have to re-upload 3 roms in a month, if you don't wanna root you can just wait for the next normal update (not rebuild) and there will be less of a cat and mouse situation. I'm just not sure if Xiaomi EU Devs will want to upload two ROMs each time because it's time consuming, but I feel like it will be less ROMs uploaded in total over a longer period since Google is so quick, and it won't leave rooted users stuck between having no play integrity or unrooting, both of which are equally as bad. Just my opinion :)

zues121510

Try installing KernelSU, I switch from magisk recently and these two banking apps I could never fix on magisk started working for me. Check the KSU site on how to install.

zues121510

There is a guide already, but it won't work unless the workaround is excluded from the ROMs (due to race-condition between them). https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/installing-magisk-and-play-integrity-fix.70553/

Igor Eisberg

Because double the time to rebuild (even to update system apps or fix some hidden issue), and double the storage (paid). Not really an option unless I kill 50% of the supported devices here.

Igor Eisberg

I did exactly this proposal to the Xiaomi.eu team! ✌️

Riad Husejnovic

That's pity that we do not have a twrp - then we would be able to install patches via ota

Tomasz Krysiak

For me is easy, for my dad not really. If I have to choose It's better to have not working payment only instead of having locked banks app or similar because of magisk and root hide.

Tomasz Krysiak

Why not have 2 releases.. one with the fix and one without.. at least that way everyone gets what they want.

Spooked

Or you can put a simple guide to put revovery and root to the phone.. we can try to do It...

Stefano Gervasini

why not? Unlocking and flashing a custom ROM is not any more difficuly than rooting a phone. I did it when I was still 12 yo.

Riad Husejnovic

well not everyone is conversant with root and the whole process. That said i think we should let the experts do what they do best.

Techmanguru

that's why it's better for them and us to just let us manually do it. it's too much work for them to keep rebuilding ROMs for just a very little type of fix...

Riad Husejnovic

follow the YouTube video that I linked in my previous comment. you have to patch a certain systeem file using an app called magisk. that app will give you a new system file called "magisk_patched-xxx.img" which you'll need to replace/flash with your current boot file. shouldn't take more than 5-10 minutes honestly. but here is a more detailed tutorial: https://youtu.be/LnIoXH5NkpY?si=rpzdvuwmgs7bcg6x

Riad Husejnovic

Hi Riad, thanks for your response. Where do you get the magisk_patched-xxxx.img? And I'm assuming that will wipe my phone?

Ben Buchli

Is there any alternative? I know that rebuild every week a dozen of ROMs is very time consuming and for me too. I have to take care of not mine phone. First requirement is call record. What can I do with Poco x4 GT..

Tomasz Krysiak

I believe its much better and easier for all if its built into the ROM hoping the developers have time to spare for this. Thanks for the good work all the same.

Techmanguru

yes it is. here's my tutorial: ANDROID 12 OR OLDER: for those that use CMD.exe: fastboot flash boot magisk_patched-xxxxx_xxxxx.img [enter] ANDROID 13: do the EXACT same steps, but instead of boot.img you'll use init_boot.img. Copy and patch init_boot.img command: fastboot flash init_boot_ab magisk_patched-xxxxx_xxxxx.img [enter] and follow the steps from this video: https://youtu.be/LnIoXH5NkpY?si=GAO5wcfddz94-hOj

Riad Husejnovic

12T root?

kan sama

Is rooting easily reversibel? Also, anyone got a good tutorial for rooting a pissaropro?

Ben Buchli

For the moment i choosed to be fixed in rom release, my bank apps don't like root and for the moment i didn't find a good method

X3N0N

However, it is a problem for the developers as stated by Xiaomi.eu: "I'm always happy to provide rebuilds, but it really gets out of control. It takes a lot of time and halts our work on HyperOS preparations. It's a cat-and-mouse game we won't win, Google is always faster."

Riad Husejnovic

Please vote for 'excluding the fix from the ROM.' It will make me very happy ;) 1. It provides every user with the freedom to choose whatever they want. 2. It's much easier for those who have limited (or slow) internet access to still be able to fix this issue, instead of downloading and installing an update. 3. It's much more flexible. Currently, you need to have a laptop or computer to fix this issue. With a module, you can just download and install it without needing a fast or huge data plan or even a PC at all! 4. It's better for the long term, as a module would probably always offer the latest fix available. 5. As stated by Xiaomi.eu, this continuous rebuilding of ROMs costs them much (unnecessarily) time, which halts the production of HyperOS and other future updates. 6. It costs a lot of disk space to keep downloading an entire ROM just to fix a small issue. This is not environmentally friendly.

Riad Husejnovic

Good to know that it works for you, but in my case, I prefer not to root and I don't want to have to do it to use a rom. I prefer to just install the rom and use it without any major problems, if it's not a problem for the developer to do rebuilds, then it's an easier way.

Eduardo Rodrigues

I believe that coming built into the ROM is better, many people use the ROM on a daily basis and may not have the necessary knowledge to root and install it, not to mention bank applications that take a lot of work to work with root, even hiding root and things like that.

Eduardo Rodrigues

Let's hope that everyne is gonna change their vote from "don't care" to "excluding it from the ROM" then xD

Riad Husejnovic

Yeah, well, the "don't care" is just a control group to make sure enough members got the chance to participate in the poll, but doesn't skew the results in either direction. ;)

Igor Eisberg

Just wait... maybe it will change :P and many (as of now) don't really care.

Riad Husejnovic

Alas, the statistics are not in your favor at the moment. :D

Igor Eisberg

I really hope Google one day decides to stop doing this, but I honestly don't think they will... sucks for all custom ROMs.

Riad Husejnovic

Thanks for the kind words. I'm always happy to provide rebuilds, but it really gets out of control. It takes a lot of time and halts our work on HyperOS preparations. It's a cat-and-mouse game we won't win, Google is always faster.

Igor Eisberg

let us root our phone and manually install the safetynet module. I think many users are able to do this.

Riad Husejnovic

Thank you so much for doing this poll! This is exactly what I asked and I'm thankful for this option. Props to Xiaomi.eu, the best thing ever for Xiaomi users. They even listen to their costumers :)
