Episode 37: The Twins Join the Choir (BONUS Patreon Only Content)

*Grant's video was filmed on a VHS tape* Don't worry, he's got a new set-up coming for next week.

Drew tells us EVERY DETAIL of Bill Nye doing improv. The boys swap choir stories. Drew plays Grant’s new game, “Love song or Worship song.” And the boys do a lil sangin’. Just remember to keep a little gay song in your heart.

Y’all have truly done so much to make me feel seen. I am so grateful. Thank you so much.

It was strictly songs from the hymn book as a kid, but worship songs were the crowd favorites in my teens. Open the Eyes to My Heart Jesus, Lover of my Soul I Could Sing of Your Love Forever

Ok I’m sorry for all the posts I’m just loving this. — one of my favorite thing about this podcast is sending random out-of-context quotes to my friends. Today it was “why is everyone so horny for god but against being gay. They all wanna suck gods cock, so why can’t suck off someone else”

Kevin Dunn

Fuck, I knew all of those worship songs

My favorite hymn was Eagle’s Wings. My all time fav song. We sang in my Catholic Churches all the time.

The excitement while telling the Bill Nye story made my day. Shall we all have such a fun time like that!

This was a truly incredible episode

As someone raised LCMS, I’d like to throw the hymn “Were you There,” into the ring. That one still haunts me around lent (lol I’m doing great rn). Super dramatic and, in a very serious, fire and brimstone church, it would get even the most staunch members a little misty.

I can relate to Drew. After being away from church for almost 15 years, I find joy in listening to some Christian music. Although it can be hokey and campy, I still appreciate it. Artists like Rachel Lampa, Crystal Lewis, Jackie Velasquez, Salvador, Mary Mary, Out of Eden, DC Talk, TobyMac, Avalon, The Katinas, CeCe Winans, Third Day, Michael W. Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman, Kirk Franklin, Byron Cage, Walter Hawkins, Andre Crouch, and so many others bring back a mix of memories. As I’ve become a more fully realized queer person, I now understand that my attraction to the Katinas wasn’t solely due to their beautiful harmonies; they are also a group of gorgeous Samoan men. My little gay self didn’t fully grasp that back then! There are still some songs that resonate deeply with me. Here’s a list of them that no one asked for: - "The Potter’s Hands" by Darlene Zschech - "Blessed" by Rachel Lampa - "Alabaster Box" by CeCe Winans - "The Blood Song" by Kirk Franklin - "My Life Is in Your Hands" by Kirk Franklin Thanks for coming to my TED Talk! 💜 I keep meaning to call in because I have a few questions for you two.

I used to be a huge Owl City fan back in the early 2010s/late aughts and the amount of overt Christian themes in the music is kinda insane and got worse as time progressed. But some of it slaps still sadly, even though he ALLEGEDLY had a gross pedophile as his drummer and did nothing about it ALLEGEDLY. I also got really into Relient K at some point during that era, Forget and Not Slow Down is still one of the best albums out there tbh I don't care how religious it is.

It may be selfish of me to suggest this, enabling almost but, I think it will be therapeutic for Grant to eat a bunch of gummies and then talk about The art of being removed from a position of god, to a camera, for the internet. I do not believe in peer pressure though but I do believe in sharing my unwarranted opinion!

Where can we see Bill Nye’s exquisite performance? I believe Drew said it can be streamed for a week. Also, do you remember when the pope came to Colorado and a lady sang the song “We are One Body?” I believe her name is Dana. I listened to that shit on loop so much that the cd stopped working. These days a church would burn if I walked into it.

Amanda Rubin

I grew up both Catholic (mom’s side) and Presbyterian (dad’s side). I attended both churches and even sang in the choir for a couple of years for our Presbyterian church where my grandfather was a minister. So lots of traditional hymns. I had my mind blown when, as an adult, I attended an Evangelical service that had a full rock band, light show, and a lot of interesting and, to me, questionable songs. Now I’ve been an atheist since I was 16 years old, but something about that set up felt almost sacrilegious and surreal. I almost couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing. I’m not entirely sure why I had such a visceral reaction, but everything felt absurd when I walked out of there. Anyway, the Bill Nye story had me rolling and I’m so happy for Grant that he’s moving on from the trauma of what happened.

At church we often sang "Peaceful, easy feeling." When I heard the original version, I thought it was an evil parody of the religious one. Ah brainwashing.

Like Drew, I still listen to Christian music from my days in the church when Vineyard Music was becoming big. Some songs: His Love; We will Dance; Arms of Love. But also listened to gospel, Hosanna Music, and those W.O.W. Christian artists' compilation CD's (gawd, I'm old)

So are we seeing an twinnuendo album in the near future cause that bit of the both of you singing was *chef's kiss*

Did Drew sabotage the camera because we all have the horn for Grant? 😇
