Dev blog 01 | Drawing with Nat | Beginings of 0.3
Added 2024-11-01 21:28:10 +0000 UTCI'm going to be attempting to post weekely blogs of my game development work. Hopefully every Friday!
To start things off, I'm working on a new content update for Drawing with Nat: Dream Diary. This version will be Version 0.3. Its mostly going to be a touch up update, adding and improving things that I ended up cutting from Version 0.2. Working back on Drawing with Nat is a semi De-rust to game development after not touching it for a long time and having a lot of issues in my personal life, so once this update is complete I will likely begin work on my other ideas.
I am currently unsure as to how big the update will end up being in the end, but for now I will share my progress this week.
Berry Woods:
Berry Woods was the first area to get an entier overhaul. The original area was very small with nothing interesting going on. There was a secret side area to the world that could be accessed via the sewers, this will remain unchanged however the rest of the world is being greatly expanded, adding multiple islands that connect together over log bridges.

Heres some more pictures of the improved area: https://imgur.com/MBZYRIw https://imgur.com/cYF3HGf
This world still needs some more work, I need to add more of the trees to some of the new areas, and I might also add some new plants or tree shapes later on. I would also like this world to connect to a few other places now that it is bigger in size too, though this is still undecided at the moment.
Event cleaning:
You might have noticed in the second picture linked some red X's on the floor, these are collission tiles that are replacing event tiles that used to act as collissions in the past. Having too many events in RPGMaker can cause lag issues on older hardware, even if the event isn't doing anything other than blocking collission it can still be a problem.
I have began removing these collission events and replacing them with tiles that do the same thing but are less intensive on the game, so it should hopefully make the game run better now. This treatment will be done to a majority of the worlds, but for now Berry Woods and Bone World have had this treatment.
Bone World:
Bone World hasn't had many changes other than the above mentioned Event clearing. You can see another example picture here: https://imgur.com/1mYurBR
I would possibly like to add more props to this world that use new structures to help with navigation, though no work has been done on this yet.
Oh and I added a little eye to the top of the Eye man's house, just for fun! https://imgur.com/2hwPwXz
Endless Walkways:
This area is going to be entierly removed from the game. It was big, confusing to navigate, and wasn't fun or interesting in any way, so its going to be almost entierly removed...
A very small section of this world will remain as a secret Eye door that can be found using the Eye form's passive ability. It won't loop anywhere and will contain all of the various colored pillars that were previously used in the world.
The drawing that is tied to this world will also be removed and replaced with a new drawing, though no work has been done on this yet.
Thats all for now!
If people enjoy these posts then I will continue to do them along with updates for my other game projects that I would like to continue working on in the future.
