All-in-one MIG/TIG/STICK? Revolution Thoughts

I teased this a few videos ago & have had a chance to get to know HTP's new multiprocess welder.

It gave me feelings; my wife is jealous.

Enjoy!

All-in-one MIG/TIG/STICK? Revolution Thoughts

MAG = Metal ACTIVE gas, MIG = Metal INERT Gas. Europe and the US differ on technical terms because why not, and good luck explaining one to the other. If you see MIG/MAG or whichever combination label its going to spit wire and fire from your finger tips. Longer answer; Anything with CO2, O2, N2, H2 = MAG, some part of the gas is chemically active and is doing things to the puddle/base metal beyond just keeping the atmosphere away from the arc. Carbon steels for some reason like an oxide layer from CO2 to help with short circuit transfer, duplex stainless steels like a touch of nitrogen to help form austenite ect ect ect.... Anything with Ar and He = MIG, No oxygen, nitrogen or hydrogen allowed. Reactives like Al, Mg, Ti, Zr, Hf ect ect.... Id love to ad Kr, Xe and Ne (but am willing to skip Rn for now...) to the list but prices are insanely above my ability to justify buying them just to play around... Fun Note; "true" spray arc transfer (the things pulse welding is trying to copy/tame) only happens with above 80% argon based gasses. It comes close and with inverter/pulse magic you can get past it to a degree... but its not the same.

When's the review of the tree stick welder coming? Imagine how much work those pruners would get!

I posted this on YouTube but I figured I’d post it on here as well: Hey Tony, I’m really interested in the possibility of getting the welders. I’m a 23 year old recent college graduated in computer science and cyber security with a passion in hobby machining and making cool stuff. Everything I’ve learned has pretty much came from you and my Dad. I’m broke from college and medical issues hence me throwing my name in the hat but I have been dying to get a welder. I constantly have stuff I want/need to weld and then I have to goto my neighbor and bother them or use some sort of metal epoxy like steelstick. Thanks for your consideration and everything you’ve taught me over the years. I can’t thank you enough!

Thanks for reviewing a really interesting machine, Tony.

YAS! As they say… I realized I was watching this in the TOT hoodie. Black with yellow print of course. Chance to win a TIG welder….? I’d love to put My hat in the ring. I MIG weld (am working on a large sun dial), and have never TIG welded but think after watching years of TOT, I could certainly learn fast. Much love. -Aaron

Funny—I was just thinking “This Old Tony hasn’t released a new video in a while” and this arrives in my in box. Cool!

It transitioned like everything else you knew.

MIG/TIG/STICK, in my 25year old schoolbook it was STICK/MIG/MAG, what happened to MAG?
