The Tannis MacBeth Memorial Fund: funding The Town Without Television

I just wanted to tell you about an unexpected series of events that occurred in the past two weeks. Here is a brief timeline:

• Tannis MacBeth, the scientist behind the Notel experiment, died on 15 June. (I told you about this with my recent blog post.)
• As an unexpected surprise, the family and colleagues of Tannis MacBeth got in touch with me, and suggested that we create the Tannis MacBeth Memorial Fund, a crowdfunding campaign dedicated to her memory. They suggested that all proceeds of this fund should go towards helping me to complete my comics about her life.
• I paused work on my illustrations, in order to shoot a crowdfunding video, write the Memorial Fund's blurb, set up the fund, etc, etc.
• Tannis MacBeth's obituary was published in the Vancouver Sun, listing the Memorial Fund as the suggested donation option.
• The donations started rolling in from Thursday 24 June onwards, as people read her obituary in the newspaper for three days in a row.

This is an unexpected opportunity for me to raise money for my comics, which I am embracing. (Between you and me, I was close to wondering how I would fund the remaining work on The Town Without Television, as my Patreon support has dwindled recently...)

So far, I've been keeping quiet about this new Fund, letting it circulate among Tannis' friends and family. I thought I'd let them begin the donations, since they knew her best. On the strength of Tannis' friends and family, we have raised $3,205 towards this project to date.

I just thought I'd give you the heads-up that I will soon be promoting this new fund throughout July and August. This will be a campaign that will run in parallel to my Patreon campaign for a couple of months, before ending on 6 August.

(In fact, you will probably get an email about this fund on Friday: just a heads-up for those on my mailing list!)

By supporting this Patreon campaign, you are already supporting my work on a regular basis, and I thank you for your ongoing support. There is no need for you to make any adjustments to your current behaviour if you are comfortable with things.

However, if you would like to top-up your support with an extra donation, please donate to the Tannis MacBeth Memorial Fund. This is something that a handful of my supporters have already done: given an extra donation to help me maximise the opportunity of this crowdfunding campaign.

Already this one-off crowdfunding campaign has raised more income than three normal months of Patreon support. Because of this, this campaign is a great way for me to top-up my finances ahead of the 6 months of drawing The Town Without Television.
