Man I just realized something that is a bit of a mood killer. With Ren being so laid back and reactive when it comes to the Akatsuki, it is causing thousands of people to die who otherwise wouldn't have. I feel more bad for the civilians and kids than the enemy shinobi though. He didn't kill them and they aren't his fault, but they are deaths he could have prevented if he expended the effort. Same with releases the Kumo prisoners who unboubtrd killed many innocents. Unless he just wants to genocide the other villages to prevent future problems and leave only Konoha left. Then it makes sense for him to be fine with it, but he doesn't seem that machiavellian to me. Instead it just seems to be the author just arranging events so Konoha 'just happens to be the only ones left with little blood on their hands. It is just to convenient for me to not sense the hand of the author here.
