[Episode] The Desexualization of Asian Men in Hollywood

The funniest thing is, I'm very close to your typical Asian nerd who can talk to girls stereotype, yet even I receive compliment from my peers, including my straight-male white friends. The desexualization is more or less just a vestigial thing in Hollywood, no longer reflecting the perception of younger generations.

I've had this same thought about middle eastern men in western media too... you almost never see them cast on things in general, and if they are they aren't usually cast as 'sexy.' In my life I've tended to be very attracted to iranian and turkish men (and women), so that's always been sad to me. Not something I really know how to talk about as a caucasian westerner, though. It seems like fetishization to be like 'hey, sexually objectify this ethnic group more please.' I probably need to think about it in a different way.

This video made me think of Lou Diamond Philips. He has had a great career, and maybe could have broken this stereotype if he'd been able to play an Asian character instead of Native American or Hispanic. I mean I don't think he's ever gotten to play a Filipino character in a movie.
