[Weekly Update] I went to the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars

Currently updating you from Hong Kong!

CHANNEL UPDATE

Since I'm away from office, I will not be able to work for the next couple of weeks. However, I have already uploaded the bonus video for this month. And a video on June has been written and recorded. It'll be up shortly after I return to Canada.

As stated in a previous update, our next video will be about bad Hong Kong fight scenes. More specifically, it'll be about the surge of Hong Kong CGI filled manhua movies of the late 90s and early 2000s: The Storm Riders; A Man Called Hero; and Dragon Tiger Gate. Although the last one is only bad in one specific instance. If you follow me on social media, you know what I'm talking about.

In the mean time, I'll start working on a video on the Ong-Bak trilogy. Mainly, I just need an excuse to watch the movies. I also need to find an interview with Donnie Yen on how the films inspired him to make SPL, because, in his words: It's not like we don't know how to fight.

MEDIA TALK

Perhaps to no one's surprise, Hong Kong has her own "Walk of Fame", just like how Hong Kong calls their own film award "Oscar" as well. Putting aside from the strange "knock off" vibe aside, though, the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars is actually a heck of a lot more interesting than the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.

By the way, that's not my picture in the thumbnail.

But as you can see, the location is just impeccable. With the view of the Victoria Harbor on one side, multiple museums on the other, it is a beautiful sight to visit.

But what I find even more ingenious is that the plaques aren't just names, they have hand prints on them. The plaques are part of the handrails, meaning when you lean against the rails to enjoy the view, you'll naturally begin to interact with the hand prints of these stars. This simple interactivity makes it much more of an experience than just walking on top of the stars.

Supposedly, there are also the Bruce Lee statue. But I think it's not there currently. Where Bruce is supposed to be, it's just an empty lot right now. Either I'm in the wrong place, or it is temporary taken away for refurbishment. The interactive monitors around the area still talks about the statue as if it's there, so it's unlikely that it is permanently gone.

One last interesting thing about the harbour: This is also where a lot of young up and coming singers gather. Bands perform live in this area, and they often draw in huge crowds. If you are lucky, you may even see professional singers coming in for a jam session. The Avenue of Stars isn't just a tourist destination, it is kinda a living breathing place.

And that's the update for this week. I'll be heading to the Hong Kong Film Archive either tonight or tomorrow. Let's see if I can find anything interesting there!
