Sure, it's divided. About 2/3 of AVN authors understand the workings of fantasy and show the MC's face. And, about a third think that seeing the MC's expressions and his eyes will do... What? Then again, I have a masters degree in myth, semiotics and communication so what would I know...

When I play an AVN, I always give the MC my name because I want to identify with him so that it is me who is having all the fun. And, because this is a fantasy experience, I want my avatar to be stronger than me, have a better defined body then mine, be taller, have more hair, be cooler, smarter, fitter, better looking, and for some of us, younger. Now, I can see from his jawline that he is good looking so why this silly game of hiding his eyes? You loose another means of communication by not seeing his intent but what do you gain? It just looks silly.
