Friday Rambles 2022/10/14

At least it's still Saturday!

I was feeling under the weather for a big chunk of the week (probably from my intense travel and zine schedule from this weekend), but I'm feeling mostly better now. All the covid tests I took every day came back negative, so I'm not worried about that. Seems like a minor aches and pains thing from lack of sleep and overwork lol.

I folded 150 zines and am finishing up packing them. Will send em all out Monday. It's a lot of manual work and awfully inefficient as far as time goes, but it's pretty inspiring that this many people would even buy a 10 page DIY booklet for 5 bucks each. But I'm also wondering how sustainable it's going to be for me personally. I'll definitely be limiting the runs to like 100 copies or so, so I'm not just folding zines for a week out of every month.

I've decided on a theme for the next zine, and it's going to be all illustrations instead of words. I'll post the wips here as I have them, of course.

After drawing the pixelart portrait fanarts of Edgerunners and Spy X Family the past month or so, I realized that it's 1. fun, 2. fast, and 3. people really like them. A triple combo! So now I'm thinking (again): I should do these pixelart portraits for people who are also willing to pay for them. So I wrote up a google form and am probably going to open up requests sometime next week after I send out all my remaining orders. I know I promised myself I'm not gonna do commissions during my break, but I've decided now in the interest of knowing "what if" I'll finally try it at least once to see how it goes and whether it's successful and I actually enjoy doing this kind of work. At least I'll finally settle that. It's the break of trying out different stuff while I can after all.

I watched a fair bit of anime this week. I caught up on Spy X Family (hence the fanart), and also caught up on Mob Psycho 100 S3. Both very good, as usual. Guess what I didn't watch! That's right, I didn't watch Chainsaw Man yet, because I mean, I already read all the manga and I haven't been able to muster up the care level to see if the anime exceeds it, because the manga already rules.

Adding the rambles tag, it seems like this is the 52nd Ramble! Which means I've been doing this weekly for a year??????????? who's read all of these? for a year? anyway thanks for your continued support you absolutely cool people.

yeah, it's a lot to ask of my international supporters to buy one every month because of the extra shipping cost, I'm probably going to continue printing back issues every time I print a new one so they can update their collections in a batch at whatever point they choose. having to print 10 different issues at the print shop is another matter 😂

I got the first Zine physically because I wanted some merch anyway, but getting just the zine, with shipping tripling the price and all the work adding onto you, seems a bit excessive. But I'll gladly tip for the digital version everytime. Maybe make the physical versions available once a year as a complete pack or something.
