Friday Rambles 2023-01-13

Why yes, it's the Friday Rambles. And yes, I'm going to talk about video game.

Steam approved the "Coming Soon" page for the Game I've Been Working On For The Past Couple Months, which finally has a title and trailer and "online presence" now. It's official, baby! Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines! Coming soon!

You can check it out HERE, and if you're very cool, which I know you are, you'll even wishlist the game! Of course, by now you probably already have, because you're cool like that. The game will be a little under 5 dollars on launch. It costs less than an iced Americano! (okay, maybe less than a large size iced Americano at the airport)

Just look at how cool that is.

The reception to the announcement went about as well as I could have ever hoped. Everyone's so darn great. And interested. No pressure. Really, it's a big load off my mind.

Given the number of wishlists that the game has already gathered (a very healthy number, apparently, according to incredibly stress-inducing indie game dev marketing blogs I've been reading instead of actually working on the game), I am gonna put a lot more spit and polish on the thing to make sure I don't get stabbed with pitchforks after releasing something half-assed.

Anyway... Here's some progress:

This week was mostly spent on Steam page stuff. And a family vacation. So not that much actual work on the game itself...

I also added controller support and got it to work on SteamDeck.

It honestly took less time than I was expecting, and I like it way more than mouse and keyboard controls! And it looks beautiful on SteamDeck. I also got familiar with the SteamPipe distribution stuff. It's so cool to be able to install my own game with my own characters from actual Steam. What a dream come true!

The one thing that was really bugging me (and probably future players of the game) was the fact that I was using free asset packs for the music (I mean, which is fine, I guess, but...), but I am now working with a real, live, music person who is writing an official soundtrack specifically for the game! I can't overstate how cool this guy is and how amazing his music is and how much it'll elevate the overall art of the game itself and how excited I am to be working with him. Like I've said a billion times this game was supposed to be a shitpost and I never really thought about the music, but now it's turning into a bona fide Actual Game. Very Cool and Very Scary. But on the other hand, even if the game sucks people will still be able to say, "at least the music's good." I'll talk about this more later.

I've been editing and moving around the script and story plot points and writing new dialogue (ie. making the entire actual game) and adding more fun player choice things. I'm also adding some minigames that Penny (and you, the player) can procrastinate with. It's no Skye's Airfryer Microgames, but maybe they'll be fun too :)

So yeah. The game is definitely not finishing by the end of this month. Planning for February, but might be early March (or end of March which is probably the absolute latest it can be before I irrevocably ruin my life chasing a stupid dream). Or later. Who knows. It really needs to just release at some point very soon, though.

As always, thanks for your support!!! Now, back to work.

Glad you're taking the necessary time to make sure it's as smooth as butter! Can't wait to hear the soundtrack that's being mixed brewed up also
