Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-04-11
Added 2025-04-11 19:53:40 +0000 UTCIt's the Friday Rambles.
(Non) Gamedev Stuff

More people played the Overtime update, and I think everyone likes it. Lots of "just as good if not better than the original" and "dev is crazy for this" reviews, and even a few social media posts about how Endless Monday is GOTY. I had a good feeling about the new chapter after I'd finished it, and I'm glad everyone likes it just as much as I did. Makes me feel really good!!!
Now I hope that translates into sales once the game is discounted lol
Speaking of discounts, I'm preparing for the ~2 Year Anniversary~ of the game release. That's right, two years ago, on May 4, the global video game phenomenon, Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines, was unleashed upon the world. So this anniversary event will consist of:
- Steam Discount
- ???
Yeah, okay, I'll have more to say about it next week, after I actually do some work. This week was mostly a rest and recovery week - not only just because of the Overtime Update launch last week, but the weekend was pretty exhausting due to real life family stuff (a wedding (not mine)), so I just took it easy.
That doesn't mean stuff isn't happening in the background, though.
- Switch port passed compliance testing (hooray!), but now I need to do all the administrative stuff to actually start selling it.
- I'm going to try to get the Switch version released sometime during the anniversary event. I'll have to announce a date ahead of time so people aren't mad at me if they buy the discounted game on Steam but they would have gotten the Switch version if they'd known about it. (Although, a true fan would get both versions ;-))
- Penny plush design feedback. Chugging along. Hope people will be able to buy the thing whenever it's done without having to pay 145% more.
- Applied to Tokyo Game Show Indie Selected 80 (might as well try)
- Also looking at the process to get a booth in the Indie Hall and calculating marketing budgets and ROI and whatever, in the likely case I don't get in the Selected 80.
- I scored a Daily Deal with Steam, so that'll be some nice visibility for a day when that happens. It's not for a while, though. Still a good excuse for another sale.
Other Stuff
I read some more books. Press Reset by Jason Schreier, to follow up Blood, Sweat, and Pixels. I thought it was an interesting read, but it became the same story over and over (ie. game studios crunching, then laying everyone off regardless of whether their game succeeded or not). What a healthy industry. The moral is to go indie, and only have yourself to blame when things don't work out.

Now I'm playing through Final Fantasy 7 on my Switch. I'm already done with Midgar, which took up the entirety of FF7 Remake. I did really like FF7 Remake, though. There's so much more characterization in the remakes and extra stories, but I guess there's also something to be said about our imaginations filling in the blanks when we have less graphics and less dialogue. I also liked that the train graveyard literally took me like 5 minutes to do instead of the giant slog it was in Remake.
Ate a lot of restaurant food this week, like at two ramen places, Pepper Lunch, Chipotle, etc (No burger, can you believe it?). It costs so much to eat out. But I was too tired and wanted to celebrate the release of Overtime, anyway. I'll do better next week.
The End
This week is like the falling action after the big climax of the game launch last week. Was good to take it easy though. Next week is gonna be a lot busier, gonna be spending a lot of time at the coworking space. Thanks for your support, as always. And a big big thank you to everyone who signed up recently. Okay, see you next week!
