Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-05-30

It's the last Friday Rambles of May. It was a shorter week, due to the holiday, but I got some stuff done, maybe, idk

Gamedev Stuff

Well, one of the things I was waiting on didn't end up working out, and I won't be exhibiting at TGS. Honestly, though, I want to move on from Dreams and Deadlines, and have nothing else to show, so that's fine. I'm still probably going to be attending in some form, since I'll be in the general geographic region during the event.

Can't say I'm not disappointed, though. But the disappointment has inoculated my heart against the inevitable disappointment of the other things I'm waiting on also not working out. I care more about those things, but I'm not feeling optimistic about my chances. I'm just gonna focus on getting Game 2 done.

Speaking of Game 2: I'm still brainstorming various ideas. I don't think it's going to be a straight up sequel, or at least, not the exact same genre or gameplay, anyway. I'm hoping to find some time to play some other games for inspiration and get myself more up to date with the state of the art.

As for moving on from Dreams and Deadlines, I pushed out yet another patch (2.0.5) this week, which has some very minor fixes to Chapter 1, to hopefully better guide players to the true ending, and also I removed a 1 second delay when changing locations because idk why it was there in the first place. Cinematic vision or whatever, I guess. But it feels a lot better now and I like it more. Hopefully this will be the last patch ever.

And I also added a new guest art to the guest art gallery, because boneNigi made fanart and how could I not?

The previous patch based on 2.0.4 for the Nintendo Switch version was also approved this week and pushed live, and I submitted another patch for approval. In addition to all the 2.0.5 stuff, the Switch version also has some fixes for touch screen controls. Anyway, hopefully that'll go live before the Nintendo Switch 2 release date. For whatever that's worth (probably not a lot (but who knows)).

Other Stuff

A lot of cool new games came out this week. Not that I've played the cool games that came out the week before, or the week before that. I did download the demo of Hundred Line, and played a little bit, so now I know what that's all about. Maybe next I'll finally play Clair Obscur.

Honestly, though, I just don't have it in me to play 100 hour+ games anymore. There are too many other things in my life to take care of, and too many other games to play, so I've been focusing on like, short 2-3 hour games lately. Smaller, more compact narrative type things. I finished Deltarune ch 1-2, in preparation for Deltarune ch 3-4 coming out next week. I even beat the secret bosses for each chapter.

Speaking of short narrative experiences, I played Catgirl, a game by City Girl (with all the pixel art by Friend of Endless Monday Ichigo), which also came out this week. It owns.

Also, SAEKO is out, too. I know the people who made it. Apparently it's not actually a dating sim, but more of a horror type deal. What I played at TGS last year was pretty spooky, so I'll be checking this out at some point...

Otherwise, I spent a lot of time refreshing my Switch 2 preorder page, waiting for updates. It's the one thing I'm looking forward to next week that will fix my entire life.

Overall, just keeping on keeping on. This week was kinda whatever, but finally, next week, the Nintendo Switch 2 preorder will arrive and fix my entire life. But until then, I'm also planning on actually drawing something for Penny Plush campaign (or at least teasing it) while farting around with more Game 2 prototypes. Maybe I'll just make something really stupid. Who knows, maybe it'll even turn into something. Okay, thanks for your support, as always! See you next week.
