Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-06-06
Added 2025-06-07 06:54:22 +0000 UTCIt ain't Friday till the Friday Ramble, as they say!
And... it's the first Friday Rambles of June. I thought June was far away, but it's not! It's now!
Gamedev Stuff
I actually started working on a thing. It's not exactly Game 2 (yet), or maybe it will be. It was actually made to sell a thing, but it might not be done on time. I might just have to make a comic.

But before I get deeper into that, how about some more Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines updates. Because no matter what, I can't seem to ever escape working on this game.
I built and pushed 2.0.5a and 2.0.5b this week, and finished coding 2.0.5c.
2.0.5a:
- Fixed: Hitting cancel on controller at the same time as clicking an option with a mouse in a choice menu makes the game lock up.
- Improved: RPG dream sequence mouse control to start conversations with NPCs now way more intuitive
2.0.5b:
- Fixed: "Year of the Tiger" achievement automatically unlocks when starting the game for the first time. It's been like this since the Overtime update. Oops!
2.0.5c:
- Fixes todo list font to look better in 1080p mode for EN/PTBR localizations, to match the other localizations.
And... that's right, I got a Switch 2! The first game I installed on it of course, was "Endless Monday: Dreams and Deadlines". I was relieved to see the game runs just fine, and starts up like, 3x faster, and has 0 frame drops now, but also dismayed to see that their upscaling algorithm for handheld mode from 720p -> 1080p makes the game look slightly blurry on the beautiful new gigantic screen. I tested a bunch of other pixel art games and they're all the same, so it's whatever, and it's definitely still perfectly playable, but I'm hoping I can improve that in a future update. You know, once I'm cool enough to be allowed to do that sort of thing.

But still, that's really cool.
Okay, and as I teased earlier in the ramble, I started working on a new game. I don't know if it's Game 2, but it's currently just a little thing to tie in with the Makeship Penny Plushie campaign.

Yeah, maybe Skye's dialogue is an allegory for something, idk. who knows.
But as usual, I went a little overboard and now I'm probably not going to finish it in time for the campaign start day. The objective was going to be for Tiger-chan to do a bunch of quests for the residents of her island to sell Penny plushies and save Penny, who is dying of lack of money due to being a game developer. Anyway, I'll probably just make a comic.
HOWEVER I think the scaffolding I built to make the RPG has some potential. I made a brand new dialogue system. The codebase was written from scratch, so there's no baggage or spaghetti to deal with from Dreams and Deadlines, which is incredibly freeing. I have a bunch of ideas for Game 2 that I'm hoping to be able to use this for.
Speaking of game development, I'm just going to keep making very character driven and dialogue heavy games, I think, without really worrying too much about like, addictive gameplay or fancy mechanics or whatever. I think as long as the story is fun to navigate through, I'll be happy making it, and as long as enough people agree, I can keep doing it as well :) (this is what I am always thinking as I keep reading game marketing newsletters for some reason.)
Bonus test dialogue to show off multiple character interaction:

And whatever this is.

Other Stuff
Yes, that's right! I got a Nintendo Switch 2. Not the one I preordered, though! That one is still in Pennsylvania, two days after launch, which is as far away from me as you can get. But they won't let me cancel my order. Also, they sent it via ground shipping, so it might never arrive. Oh well.
But I was able to walk into a retail store after I woke up, like 45 minutes after open on Thursday, and pick one up after a short wait at the electronics department. They were out of Mario Kart World bundles but at least I got one. There was a line behind me so they probably sold out pretty soon after, though. Lucky!
Anyway, what's the point of preordering if it's not even gonna be here till a week+ after launch lol.
I played Deltarune Ch. 3 but didn't get a chance to start Ch. 4 yet. It looks pretty good on the Switch 2. I also got the upgrade pack for Zelda: Tears of Kingdom, but I haven't had a chance to play that yet either. I want Mario Kart World but I'm mad I don't have the bundle and I don't want to pay 30 dollars more.
So, verdict? My entire life hasn't been fixed by getting a Switch 2, but I'm seeing the potential for it to fix my entire life at some point. Maybe once I play Mario Kart World. And as long as that hope is there, then I can keep on pushing through.
Other Other Stuff
Touch Arcade did a little feature of "Favorite Indie Games of 2025" and Endless Monday made the cut! (with the excuse of: it was released on Switch with a new chapter this year lol). Hey, I'm not complaining. Touch Arcade of course, has a special place in my heart for being the only non-Japanese gaming news site to ever talk about my game. Go check it out!!
The End
I made lots of progress on various things, but next week is a busy week for marketing (Penny Plushie launch, Steam Daily Deal) and I don't have anything ready for them. I guess I'll have to burn the midnight oil for a bit. Of course, thank you for your support, as always. See you next week! I have high expectations, so here's hoping I have good news to share next week. Okay, bye!!

i also like her design :) she was pretty popular for the one screen she appeared in the game. i think she'll feature a lot more in the next thing!

2025-06-10 14:55:42 +0000 UTCI REALLY like Bunnychan's design. Which you may either take as a complement, or condemn as otaku brainrot as suits your own sentiments toward her. Frankly, I'm not entirely sure myself.

2025-06-09 17:18:04 +0000 UTCGhhhhhh the rubberband snap on the new character portraits entering a scene is soooo gooood π€ I appreciate how it's exaggerated just enough to playfully build into the wacky kind of energy the characters thrive in πͺ And vive dialog-driven, character-focused games! I tried inviting my partner (who evidently only plays action games) to try Deltarune chapter 1 a couple months ago, and she got a couple hours in before frustratingly asking (like immediately after the delivery of a Lancer-Suzy tag team pun) "Uh... is the point of this game just to talk to people?" and I could only wordlessly stare in horror upon Toby Fox's writing being reduced to "just talking to people" with all the game's innovations in the jrpg encounter system also completely disregarded lol π₯ So... yeah, can't win em all, as they say. But power to those with vision πβ¨ Talking to people is the very best π Beautiful work on the promotions for the Penny plush, and I hope the new console feels nice to play! Cheers!
