Friday Rambles and Game Dev Update 2025-08-08
Added 2025-08-08 22:02:45 +0000 UTCIt's the Friday Ramble.
Game Dev Stuff
Ticket purchases opened up for Tokyo Game Show, so I applied for a Business Days pass. I was a bit worried that I might not get a ticket due to IDK not being a real Game Business or whatever (even though I actually am) but anyway... I was allowed to buy a ticket without any issues so now I'm officially going to Tokyo Game Show 2025 during the Business Days, like a real Games Business. Maybe next year I'll be exhibiting something.
As for actual game dev, I did some more work on Skye's Air Fryer Bar, a significant minigame that'll be part of Game 2. I divided up the video into a few gifs so it'll load faster and display good.
Implemented a proper transition from Talk Mode to Cook Mode. Also added a recipe book you can flip through, so you know how to make the order.

Made a fun effect that plays once the cooking is done. There's a glamour shot of the completed recipe, and you can admire the food before you serve it.

And if you screwed up the order, you can toss it before serving it to your customer to try again. But just remember that every time a Skye's Famous Cheesey Fryes goes bye bye, a Skye cryes.

So it goes.
Anyway, none of the art is final, but I think it's taking form! I have a bunch more things to add, some state transitions to fix, but it's almost done enough that now I can write the more important talking parts now. And before I do any polish for this I'm going to focus on the prototype of another minigame that's going to be featured in Game 2.
And once that's done I'll be writing some dialogue and drawing sprites and backgrounds for trailer footage, so maybe it'll be a bunch of scenes that'll end up not being in the actual game. Hey, if Hollywood's allowed to do it...
Speaking of trailers, I found and rewatched the first trailer for Dreams and Deadlines that I made for the initial Steam Page, and dang it's not pretty. I changed the trailer to something way better the day before Dreams and Deadlines launched, when the original soundtrack existed and I had an actual complete story. I guess I should be thankful so many people still wishlisted the game.
I think I'll have significantly more material for Game 2's first trailer than what I had available for Game 1. The difference between that and my final Dreams and Deadlines trailer is encouraging though, like it feels like it bodes well for Game 2.
Not Game Dev Stuff
Future merch things continue to happen. I guess you can just consider the merch stuff continuing to happen until I announce something or otherwise, since it'll take a while. But I'm pretty excited about it. I'm pretty darn excited.
I was browsing the Lego Store at my local mall this week and saw that they were selling Lego pens. In a moment of weakness, I got one. Thus continues my streak of getting a new pen a week.

And my collection grows. It's, of course, uncomfortable af to write with. Certainly not an "every day carry" as they say, but it's still a fun novelty.
I made a post about the sticker shop closing soon a couple days ago, and got a bunch of new orders. I spent time packing them and then shipped them all out today.

As a reminder, the Buy Three Get One coupon for Patreon supporters is still active! It'll be up till the store closes at the end of next week. You can use this code on checkout: 2025BUY3GET1
The End
That's all for now. Next week I'll be wrapping up the Skye's Bar minigame (cooking part) and hopefully making good progress on the second minigame. Hmm. There will be an actual main game for these minigames to be a part of, right? I can't simply do a minigame collection. No one will buy that. It can't be done.
Okay! Thank you for your support, as always. See you next week!
