Current Process Walkthrough + Brushes

Hey all!

Hope you've been well! Since my last post I've finished the comic and I've worked up a few meatier posts that are up to date with how I've been painting all my works for Diablo IV if you've seen those. This here is my current painting process, simplified somewhat, only because I don't do a full paintover at the end there but otherwise this is how I've been building up all my works.

I'll have more posts going up next!

Krita and Photoshop brushes are attached below.

Thanks for all your support!

Dave

i think this is how to open ".bundle" file types. they seem to be the "brush bundle" file type for Krita: Settings > Manage Resources Libraries > Import (+ button in lower left) select > open "Rapoza.bundle" file Next, in the brush window click the panel buttons to find the 2 brushes from this bundle. Then you can "assign tags" to make it easier to find those specific brushes. Hope this helps!

.bundle is the extension for importing Krita brushes

Jarod Hamley

Same. How do you open .bundle?

J.R. Barker

what extension is for .bundle?

This is so helpful! Curious Dave, will you ever be posting a similar type of video for Procreate? Just curious bc I’ve been working on the go and using my iPad a lot more. Thanks!

How do I open that bundle file? That doesn't seem to be a valid bundle file - I can't view the contents on my Mac or iPad. Can you upload a zip file please?

Hi Dave, have you thought about sharing the files and process of the merman? That art, as well as the one of the goblin, turned out incredible.

Hey, Dave I love the texture of the brush you are using in Clip but I can't find it in the brushpack below this post.

I’m curious about your thoughts on the processes of converting a value painting to color. They always seem to look off to me like looking at the colors through a colored filter. I didn’t understand why and then I came across a process recording from artgerm where he discussed some of the inherent issues with it. He showed an example in photoshop of painting a red, green, and blue square. He then went to color and hue adjustment and desaturated it to gray scale and it showed the middle color as the darkest value but when he went to option to convert it to a black and white image the box on the left was the darkest. The point is you don’t know which one if any is reading the value correctly. I believe the issue is related to the fact that every color has its own inherent value scale that mathematical art software is not able to properly compute when using different color or layer modes. Do you find your paintings to look off when trying to convert from grayscale compared to painting the color yourself?

I appreciate what you put out! Do you by chance know where I can find the first Steve Lichman panels you posted? Heard about it in a podcast with you and just can’t find em 😂

Thanks so much Dave! Really glad to have access to this content!

Also, quick addendum - if you're going to paint over the adjusted images you make in Krita you should flatten the image first and save a new file, that way you don't lost the adjustment layers. When in Krita you just make a new layer and do the paint over there, after which you can drop it back on your master file, that's generally how I do it

I just updated the post with the PSD of the gauntlet in the video

Thanks for sharing Dave!
