Clip Studio Brushes

Hey!

So, I'm attaching here the only 2 brushes I use in Clip Studio. I'm going to give you all a quick walkthrough in video form soon as I can, but here's the basics of it -

Dopest Pencil - This brush I use to ink pretty much all my comic work, I find that it makes a really nice pencil texture but also a nice ink texture. It definitely serves more than one purpose. But if you're looking to do tight comic lines, this is my absolute favorite brush, I honestly can't find anything better but maybe that will change in the future, if it does I'll let you know.

Water Color and Pencil - So, this brush serves three purposes. If you look at my MGS piece you'll see that I'm getting a type of watercolor/ink wash texture on the characters, this is accomplished by using this brush set to a lower opacity and using colors on top of lines(also done with this brush) on a layer set to multiply(I like to do a single pass for each color to achieve the effect, each pass meaning I don't lift my hand to do multiple strokes). I also use this brush as the pencil for the entirety of the MGS piece, I generally have it set to around 30-40% opacity when using it for this purpose.  The third use is that I paint the entirety of my images with this brush. So, if you see how I rendered in grayscale on my MGS piece, that was all done using this brush on top of my lines. This is also the brush I use to finish all my paintings.

Here's what my process generally looks like

- Sketch and Final Drawing in Clip Studio

- Save as PSD and open in Photoshop

- Set Final Lines on a Multiply Layer

- Paint in Colors and Textures beneath lines

- Use loads of Adjustment Layers to get the exact Colors and Values I'm looking for

- Save and bring back into Clip Studio

- Finish everything with Watercolor, Gouache and Pencil brush

- Final adjustments in Photoshop, sharpen, Done.

I'll send along a process video as soon as possible to help you all out on how I use this process start to finish.

Hope this helps in the meantime!

Thanks for all your support!

Dave

PS - if you don't know how to import brushes into Clip, here's a video with awful music that shows how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_VJmxvDb78

Also - all the texture brushes I use in Photoshop are from Grzegorz Rutkowski's oil brushes here - https://gumroad.com/grzegorzrutkowski#xmnEX

Dave, what brush did you use for the hatching in your chrono trigger ones?

Oliver

I went ahead and bought the 'Grzegorz Oil Brushes' (happy to help support artists out there) these brushes are fun to use! I did have a question, since these are your go to brushes in PS. Do you use a similar method of adjusting opacity from 30%ish - 70%ish and do you have any 'go to' brushes in this pack that you mainly use? Similar how you narrowed down your clip brushes to 2. So far i like (Sample Brush 8 5) and (Sample Brush 6 3)
