The Basics - Current Process // video with commentary

Hey!

Hope you're well! Here's the latest Basics video covering my process using the Mixer brush(attached in the snowman brushes) as a means of final render, or rather - just part of the final process. I think that this approach lends itself to a more naturalistic oil style painting, which is something I've been after since I started that Symphony of the Night piece a while back - truth be told, I've been looking for something like this for forever.

If you'd like the chalk brush or blender I use in this, you can grab those here! Everything else is attached to this post.

If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them here!

Thanks as always for your support!

Dave

Hi Dave, for many years my lifelong dream, of inserting goblins into classical oil paintings, seemed unattainable. My friends would say things like "it's too difficult mate" and "why would you do that, whats wrong with you". But now, thanks to this instructional video, my hope is renewed and my passion is reignited. Thanks for the brushes and tips, excited to try them out!

I've definitely been wanting to find something that feels more like painting. Thanks so much for this!

Thanks! What are the best blend settings, (Wet/Load/Mix/Flow) to have? I don't know what they do and can't see much difference when i mess around with them.

Love this tutorial! i sometimes get stumped on what process to do next with making art but your tutorial explains the thought process behind each layer and choice behind the brushes so that helped me alot

Awesome, Thanks Jacob!

Vibrance increases the saturation of muted colors more quickly than it does colors that are already very saturated. It's a little different from the Saturation layer which just makes every color more saturated in a uniform matter. This tends to make the vibrance slider look a little more natural than the saturation slider when you're trying to add more saturated colors to a desaturated base the way Dave tends to start his paintings. It's basically just alternative to the saturation slider.

Awesome tutorial! Definitely gonna try some of these techniques. Thanks also for the variety of brushes you give us. You're the best, Dave!

Hey Dave, cool video. I ate a bean burger and drank some orange juice while watching it

Damn Thanks Dave!, Does anyone knows what the vibrance layer does?
