Mega Man X - Zero Timelapse

Watch the video here!

Hey!

Hope you're well! I wanted to share the current progress on a Mega Man X piece I was playing around with. When I started I was just loosely sketching around and ended up liking the direction so I figured I'd build off my initial image and create a composition out of it - this one started with X and changed from just an inked look to a type of hybrid ink/paint look.

The video is a timelapse of most of the process for Zero so far. I don't have too much left to do on this, but here it is so far!

Thanks as always for your support!

Dave

Best music on a Timelapse god damn

Oh yeah that's a very fair point! Fingers crossed for the workflow's development then. The direction it's going is honestly playing on all of my heart strings, so I'm really excited to see how you approach it further on!

Thanks Dave! It’s a lot more simple an answer than I was guessing - I kinda feel dumb for asking now. Cheers!

Thank you! I was thinking about it, I might post something similar up, but I felt I didn't really nail what I was going for with that one so I didn't want to share process as if it's something I intend on carrying forward into my work.

I was setting it to multiply because I found it faster to switch between black/white when doing my initial drawing rather than using the eraser. Because of that, all of my final lines has a lot of white marks in them so I would set the layer to multiply so I could color beneath the lines/values. But now I tend to use the "~" instead of flipping between black/white so that I no longer need to set it to multiply in order to lose the white marks.

Thank you! I think it took around 8-10 hours total

They slap so hard, holy shit! I love how much the armor's texture resembles painted metal and the glow of Zero's blade. Are you planning to put the process/psd for that Halo helmet doodle you've done recently on Patreon? It'd be awesome to get a peek at it, the final result is haunting my very soul.

I have a quick question for next time - why do you decide to sometimes set the lineart to multiply and sometimes not? Sometimes the difference between them isn't really noticeable, particularly when the lineart is tinted afterwards. Hope you're well!

This is so amazing!! I wonder how many hours did it take you to finish it?

Incredible! It's like an expansion on your KoF and SF pieces you did. I'm really diggin' this style - it's not just the music and subject matter but it gives off a feeling of nostalgia.

Incredible piece! Thank you so much Dave! c:
