Hey!
Hope you're doing good! These two paintings here were small tests I've been doing to nail down the b&w look and see just how much of that initial drawing/b&w painting I want to incorporate into my style. I've been finding that colorizing a slightly rendered drawing using basic values in shadows rather than fleshing out all the mid tones to be the best approach after working through these.
I think both of these paintings are failures in and of themselves, but I was more interested in playing with how loose I can start my images and end up at a finished place - this is definitely not the way to go for me - I think overall I just need very tight drawings and I can do the minimal rendering after that, but to start overall loose is not my natural way of working through an image anymore. At least I don't get as good a result.
Now that I have these down and have learned my lesson I generally have a better idea of how to quickly knock in the rest of the FF7 cast as that has been weighing on me. The Cloud didn't come out great so I want to make sure the rest don't suffer from the issues I had with him. I think solving all my problems in a basic b&w rendered drawing should do the trick. Here's hoping anyway!
Thanks as always for your support!
