Zoanoid - Timelapse Video, Realtime Video, PSD + High Res

Watch Real time Video here!

Hey!

Hope you're well! This is a bit of an experiment, I wanted to give the program Krita a shot as I've heard great things about the brush engine and realistic approach to painting. I've really been enjoying it so far - the Skeleton above is the first attempt I had painting in the program, the second being the Zoanoid featured on this post.

Both paintings took around 2 hours using the brushes that come with Krita. My favorite part of the process so far is how well I feel it emulates real paintings in terms of accuracy, it's a similar reason to why I love Clip Studio. But, what's great about Krita is that it has far more similarities to the more textural brushes I've been using in Photoshop, I feel I can definitely get more painterly here. The next program to try out is ArtRage, haven't checked it out yet but I'm hopeful!

I hope the videos and the PSD are helpful!

Thanks,

Dave

I picked up Rebelle, which gets high marks for wet-on-wet blending simulations. I haven't gotten too deep into it yet. If you get a chance to try out Rebelle I'd love to get your take.

Amazing. Are they all default brushes?

Asher Tail

Oh shit! Thanks Flo! I will definitely take a look

It has way more blending modes. Like, so many you probably wouldn't believe it. My favorites that are not standard are "Parallel" and "Grain Extract"(Grain Extract as mode on a layer above with a texture). Give them a spin. Color Correction is also there for sure: curves, tonemapping, contrast, all there. Krita is far more accurately controllable compared to PS, but PS still is the king in performance when you for example scale or transform big layers. It's free and open source, just like Blender. The community can actively help make it better. Win-win? :)

Hi Dave, try Rebelle too! it's cool and nice for watercolor and oil paint!!!

That looks great Dave! Does Krita have most of the common tools like photoshop? Blending modes, color correction etc?
