Hey!
Hope you're well! This one was kinda interesting, I did this cover a few months back, right about where I started using Krita - I submitted the initial sketch that was done in photoshop, I wasn't thrilled about it so I decided to change up my approach to hopefully get some nice energy goin. When it comes to Marvel covers I feel pretty safe doing experiments in the approach, they're generally pretty lax when it comes to style/render quality and all that so worst case scenario it would likely still be fine - even if it stunk.
But with this I brought that color sketch(step 2) over into Krita and began using Krita's thick paint brush and the wet knife plus brush to paint around and find a more traditional looking render - it was a lot of fun and I thin the end result ended up feeling much better than that initial sketch.
To finish it up (step 5&6), I brought it back to Photoshop and just some soft brushes and whatnot to add some more soft shadows - I also did a variety of adjustment layers to play with making Venom pop more off the darker background I ended up going with.
There are two PSD's attached to this post, Venom - 1 is where I took the initial sketch and started rendering out in Krita - Venom - 2 is mostly Photoshop.
Thanks as always for your support!
Dave
