Diablo IV - DemonGuy steps & PSD

Hey!

So, I've been playing a lot with this approach, feeling really positive about the speed I'm getting to with these - this one above took around 1-2 hours - the main speed boost is coming from those initial Krita renders(steps 1-3), the rest is me rendering more realistically(sorta) in Photoshop with textures and softer skin feel and whatnot. There's also lots of color adjustments and everything else I usually do, but for the most part I am keeping my starting values relatively dark rather than slowly building to those pure blacks - this is mostly to keep the Diablo type of look present in the work, better to build from shadow if you're doing that dark fantasy stuff.

This whole learning process has given me a real craving to work on dark fantasy illustration - I actually reached out to the Diablo team via Twitter so here's hoping there's some development there as I'd love to take something like this(the style) to a very polished final with a full scene. But, even if nothing comes of that, it's always so much fun to do these tests, super enjoyable.

Now that I got a clear workflow for this type of thing I'll make sure to do a video to get into the weeds on the process!

Hope the PSD attached is helpful to you!

Thanks for your support!

Dave

I'm loving this brush in Krita but i'm curious is there a way to make it a bit softer as far as edge value? I see the program also has a blender brush which is nice to soften some hard edges. May mess with the brush editor today.

I could be wrong, but I think he's using that "Chrome" brush from Krita.

This looks so freaking amazing!! <3<3 Would you be ok to share what brush you use? It's so dope!

Damn Dave, you've got our troughs overflowing with juicy process content! Here in the pigpen we're growing so fat and happy, most of us have to roll around instead of walk. Why wouldn't a ham want to pack on pounds and pounds of tender, succulent flesh in the holiday season? I'm feeling optimistic about my immediate future! 🐖
