Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden

I have loved the journey through Sleep Token's full catalogue leading up to the release of this album, it has been my most anticipated video since I started my channel in Jan 2020 and it did not dissapoint!

From NAPALM RECORDS:

"With SLEEP TOKEN, the boundaries of musical genres blur.

The new album 'Take Me Back To Eden' (more than an hour of music with 12 distinctive tracks) is part 3 of a trilogy, a spectacular conclusion to the ongoing Sleep Token saga that began four years ago with the debut album 'Sundowning'.

What comes next only time will tell, but what is certain is that it will not be bound by conventions. 'Take Me Back To Eden', contains the heaviest moments Sleep Token have recorded so far, along with some of the most commercial and certainly the most emotional songs and a number of other tones, textures and tangents touched on in between."

Sleep Token - Take Me Back To Eden

Comments

I have teared up to media 3 times in my life. Watching The Art of Driving in the Rain, finishing Kingdom Hearts 2, and during Euclid. It hit me the same way it did you man. To end the trilogy like that, it is absolutely amazing. Seriously you feel like it is the ending of a movie/series/game that you have a personal connection with.

Thank you so much Matt you've made my day!

Love this reaction so much. I came here from your YouTube channel where I have been a long time viewer because I wanted to live this entire album cover to cover with you. I discovered Sleep Token late last year by chance on social media and I am also obsessed. I too have listened to their entire discography and since joining your Patreon I decided to build it up and watch all of your reactions to their earlier discography in order before watching this one. This album is just mind blowing, it has certainly gone down as one of the greatest albums of all time in my book. I have listened to it an unhealthy amount of times since it came out. I lost count of the amount of times I was saying "he's not ready" every time a big change was coming on a song you hadn't heard. WHAT. A. BAND. I am now super intrigued to see what they will do next, surely they can't get any better, can they?! Anyway, love what you're doing Josh. I will be sticking around here for sure because I am happy to support you on your journey, plus there's many other reactions I want to watch through and I am excited to see new albums you do in the future. Your taste in music is bizarrely similar to mine with mine being born from 16 years of playing the drums. I don't think there's a better combination than a musician such as yourself with a huge passion for music doing what you do. As Limp Bizkit would say - keep on rollin' baby!

& yet fantano thinks its messy & has no human touch & gave it a 2/10 😤

it is one of my all time favourite albums, a modern classic! and thank you so much!

Man i’ve watched this video like 5 times now and just truly appreciate your appreciation for Sleep Token. The fact you’ve gone back into their earlier projects just T’d you up perfectly for yhe context of this entire project. Before the first time i saw this video i went through the playlist of ST songs you did just to go back and relive your journey and the evolution of how you saw them as artists until now, it’s badass dude. I’m curious if you still hold the same appraisal today as you did at the end of the vid.. because personally, contextually, this is easily one of the greatest bodies of work i’ve ever heard

the Vorechestra version of Vore is fucking splendid tbh, almost hard listening to the OG version now😂

What an incredible achievement this album is for the band. Literally every track could be named as someone’s favourite of the 12. I can’t pick just one but it’s a three way tie between Ascensionism, Are You Really Okay? and Take Me Back To Eden. (Euclid would probably have resonated with me more but as you’re about to read, I wasn’t in on the band to begin with) I am still a relatively new fan of the band, and when I initially heard the first album at the time of release, I didn’t understand what I was hearing. I think I was still quite the metal elitist unfortunately and wouldn’t dream of playing something that didn’t have screams (I had only saved ‘Gods’ from their discography until this year). But as of the start of 2023 when they dropped Chokehold and The Summoning back to back, I was fully on board. Went back and listened to all previous songs and I finally got what the fuss was about. Sleep Token is more than just a band, it’s an experience and I wish I was along for the ride from the beginning without being dismissive of something new. Are You Really Okay? is hauntingly beautiful and I felt every lyric he was singing. Ending the song with “Please don’t hurt yourself again” repeating got me so emotional and I’m really glad I stopped being the edgy music snob I was in the past because I have been able to get into this amazing band now. Worship.

I started listening to Sleep Token when Two came out. I still remember being super excited about The Night Does Not Belong to God before it came out. Hearing them bring it full circle with Euclid was one of the greatest musical experiences I've had. Love your excitement as well, it's been a joy to watch you listen to their discography!

Best way I could describe my feelings about this album: I often find myself searching for “epic” edits or versions of songs that I love. Songs that I feel could be even more impactful than the original. With this entire album, there is not a single song that needs that. From start to finish a masterpiece of emotional music that tells a story we can all relate to at some point when listening. Whether you’ve loved and have lost or fear to lose that love you have, you can feel all the emotions these songs want you to feel.

I genuinely thought over the last year or two I had been slowly losing my interest in music. It was finding a good song here and there, but no full experiences, nothing truly coherent, or artistically risky. Finding Sleep Token a month or so back quickly made me realize that that wasn't my fault, it was the music's. This band is just on another level. As for Euclid and the "ending of the trilogy" I highly doubt it means they are done, but I think the lyrics could suggest that Vessel might unmask. I kind of hope that's not the case, but we'll see. Either way they are going to have a hell of a time topping this album, but if anyone can out do Sleep Token's best album, it's Sleep Token. Worship.

This album has been amazing. What a masterpiece.

Never had an album mean so much to me. Loved your reactions over this perfect album and all the Sleep Token songs you've shown on your channel. It's been an incredible journey. We are so lucky to have this band in all of our lives. Worship friends.

It's weird how they sorta feel like 'Eden', I couldn't agree more with your comment about it feeling personal, I've never experienced an album like it before and It's hard to imagine any other doing. Feels like this sort of album comes around once every 10 years or so. In complete awe of this album, thank you for sharing your experience, Worship <3

I get what you mean! This album really does feel like they made it with me in mind. It speaks to me so much. Perfection is exactly what it is. It’s filled with such beauty and such pain. I’m so glad I went through their discography before this album came out. Made the experience a whole other level of amazing. Have loved seeing your journey with them as well! Been waiting for this to drop haha great reaction and observations. And of course, worship.

Rin

Thank you so much Lauren!

This is such a special reaction because it echos how I felt listening to it. You have the same love and understanding of this band that I do and watching this was like getting to listen to the album again for the first time. It’s unreal how talented Sleep Token is, and I’m so grateful I discovered them and that we can all share in it. Great work! Worship

Euclid really feels like the end of a chapter. A bittersweet conclusion, almost like a relationship finally ending… I think we’re all in awe of this album

Owen Benjamin

thank you so much Tim!!

Josh Hext

thank you Graham I appreciate it!

Josh Hext

Great reaction to an amazing album from an amazing band. To me, Euclid really does feel like a goodbye, with the last song in the trilogy ending with the first song from the first album. That, and the other callbacks / easter eggs, does make me wonder if they will be moving on to pastures new now. Anywho, I love the way your passion for the bands shines through when you listen. Keep rocking on.

This has been on repeat since fri and what a way to round off the weekend with this reaction, has been a pleasure to have been on the discovering sleeptoken journey with you, your reactions have always been so genuine and the knowledge & music insight has always made the reactions & album play throughs just brilliant. Are you really ok is going to stick with me for a long time, that hits home on so many levels it really highlights your personal to me comments, you can put your own lore and attachments to so many aspects of their work and it just hits different no other way to put it. Amazing way to wrap up the trilogy and keep up the great work bud
